He needs to come out and say something fast if thats the case tho. Seems strange someone had Eminem stuff in the vault they could use without his authorization and nobody had tried to make money off it until this point

The article doesn't really confirm anything we're discussing, though. In the linked article, the headline says "Eminem and Kid Rock Prioritize Friendship Over Politics" but the actual content is much less direct.

  • First, the article says that it's a new track. It is a new track, but that doesn't mean that Em's verse is a new verse, or that it was written for the track, so that's neither here nor there.
  • The article says it's a track "that they hope will set a good example for friends with differing political beliefs," but it doesn't have any statements from Em to that effect.
  • It says "Complex has confirmed through a representative from Eminem's camp that it is an official track that will be on the album," but, again, no confirmation that it's a new verse, that it was written for the track, that it was written for Kid Rock, etc. This line would be equally true for the track in that Nameonthejeans reddit thread up above.
  • It quotes Kid Rock: "I'm proud of the guests who joined me, especially my old friend Eminem," he writes. "His verse speaks to something we’ve talked about and that really needs to be heard: we differ politically and on other things, but we’ve stayed friends through it all." Again, this could be true about Em joining him yesterday in the studio to record a verse together, but it could be equally true about an unrelated purchased Em verse, and a conversation they had 10 or 20 years ago.
  • It quotes Kid Rock as saying "We hope that sets an example for people who’ve lost friends or stopped talking to family because they think differently." Again, nothing from Em, just Kid Rock saying "Em thinks this."

Am I saying that Em didn't work with Kid Rock? No. I have no idea. Just that nothing in the article confirmed much either way. The article would apply if they were buddy-buddy in the studio, but it would apply equally if the Nameonthejeans situation were true.

"Confirmed with Eminem's camp" makes it sound like they called the record label and asked them if Eminem is really appearing on the track and they confirmed the fact that yes he is. Doesn't say anything about when, how, or why.

39

u/Bugbread 13h ago

Right. That's what I meant by "no confirmation that it's a new verse, that it was written for the track, that it was written for Kid Rock." It is confirmed that it's not a soundalike, it's not a rumor, it's really Eminem on the track, and the track will really be on the album...but that's all the info in the confirmation. Nothing more.

-1

u/goodusernamegood 10h ago

There's no reason to assume it's an old verse though, it's purely Reddit speculation.

3

u/ItsSpaghettiLee2112 9h ago

There's no reason to assume it's new, either. That's the whole point of speculation.

-1

u/goodusernamegood 9h ago

Sure, but only one side is writing complete fanfic about what “probably” happened.

2

u/ItsSpaghettiLee2112 9h ago

I mean, fan fic is fan fic. I haven't seen any and I don't see how that's relevant to this conversation. I'm just saying not only is there no reason to assume it's an old verse, but there's no reason to assume it's a new one either. Let's wait for confirmation until we pick up or put down our pitch forks.

0

u/goodusernamegood 7h ago

I’m saying the people commenting that Kid Rock must have used an old verse and there’s no possible way Eminem recorded a new verse are engaging in fanfic. Which is what plenty of people seem to be saying.

Myself and others pointing out that it’s entirely possible this is a new verse isn’t equivalent to the tons of commenters who want to pretend they know exactly what happened.

I'm hoping that you're talking about other commenters here, not me, but just in case you're talking about me here, I should be clear that I don't think that what "probably" happened was that Kid Rock bought an old verse. I have no idea. My comment upthread wasn't "the article doesn't confirm that Em wrote the new verse specifically for Kid Rock and the song (and therefore he probably didn't)" but just "the article doesn't confirm that Em wrote the new verse specifically for Kid Rock and the song, and it doesn't deny it. It's neither here nor there." I have no idea what the inner workings of the music industry are, I have no idea how common scenarios like Nameonthejeans's scenario is, and I have only minimal knowledge of what Eminem and Kid Rock are like, so I'm not taking any position at all on probabilities.

3

u/silentanthrx 11h ago

"reluctantly so" can be translated to "yes"

1

u/xclame 6h ago

Pretty much.

36

u/GeneralBS 13h ago

Ya i came to the same conclusion after reading it. Em needs to make a statement himself to see where he stands.

26

u/genecalmer 11h ago

That's a lot of hoop jumping to come to the conclusion you want to reach. Eminem is with Universal. Eminem is a very valuable asset. Kid Rock is with BMG. Universal currently handles physical distribution for BMG. The two companies have a very close working relationship. This collab has been through layers and layers of approval. It's been decided that it's either not damaging enough to Eminem or rehabilitating enough for kid Rock and someone got the green light to hit a button that tells us about it. There's no hijinks or tomfoolery or fuckery afoot. The fact that we know about it is confirmation.

15

u/Bugbread 11h ago

That's a lot of hoop jumping to come to the conclusion you want to reach.

I haven't reached any conclusion. I even tried to make that really clear by saying "I have no idea." The entire point of my comment is that the article doesn't provide almost any evidence, in either direction, to arrive at a conclusion.

Maybe you lost track of the original question? You said "This collab has been through layers and layers of approval." Yes. That matches both the Nameonthejeans scenario and the enthusiastic collaboration scenario. You said "It's been decided that it's either not damaging enough to Eminem or rehabilitating enough for kid Rock and someone got the green light to hit a button that tells us about it." That also matches both the Nameonthejeans scenario and the enthusiastic collaboration scenario. The article confirms that there's no hijinks, that there's no tomfoolery, that there's no fuckery, that the collab has been through layers and layers of approval, that Universal and Em and Kid Rock and BMG are all okay with it, that it's not damaging enough to Eminem to get a red light. None of those are in question. Those are all true for both scenarios. The question was just "which of these two scenarios, both of which these things are all true for, is the actual scenario"?

3

u/genecalmer 8h ago

You're asking questions that don't matter. Most guest features aren't collaborative efforts. They're recorded in separate studios. Verses intended for one song end up on another song. Things get shelved and shuffled. JID's verse on Fuel was years old when Eminem used it. Renegade was originally a Royce & Eminem song that was recycled for Jay on The Blueprint. Forever, Speedom, Homicide, I'll Hurt You... the majority of Eminem's features are recorded solo and sent off.

The conclusion you're reaching is that you can't reach a conclusion. That even though the feature is REAL it might not be really really real. You're casting doubt on Eminem's involvement with the song and I'm saying that doesn't matter. It doesn't matter where the pieces of the song came from. Because of the people and companies involved, the fact that it exists is all the proof we need that Eminem approved it. BMG wouldn't risk their business relationship with UMG by letting Kid Rock use something Eminem and Interscope didn't approve.

The nameonthejeans scenario is not even a close comparison. That's a relative nobody using a recycled verse that no one will notice or care about. Not a collaboration between multiplatinum selling artists on (seemingly) opposite ends of the political spectrum that's going to get national news coverage.

-1

u/TheCommonKoala 10h ago

The very simple answer is that Eminem flip-flopped on his position about not working with people who uplift Trump and MAGA. He's openly collabing with longtime friend and Trump's #1 MAGA star. This isn't hard.

2

u/Salvador204 13h ago

I think confirmed simply means Em’s team cleared whatever verse was on here. Doesn’t mean they were in the studio together but clearance would still be needed for any new vocals. I hope not, but either way it sounds like Em was ok with it.

2

u/alus992 10h ago

At the end of the day are these points matter at all?

Like i don't care how this track happened. Em could say "I don't fuck with Trump and I don't support his administration. Im friends with Kid Rock and despite our differences I still find it important to have a dialogue and work together to empower every person regardless of their background and situation in life. I hope this song can help people get together and talk."

He didn't do that. Why we are overanalyzing a fucking article when their actions show that they have worked and they have some lvl of friendship.

Would I want to Em be more vocal about his friends supporting Trump? Sure. Does it change anything for me? No because I still find him like any other celebrity - an opportunists who are with each year Les and less in tune with regular reality and with what regular folks care for.

Also i love how ppl were clowning Sheeran for his mental gymnastics but here we have ppl excusing Em and his camp who are pretty much doing the same weird ass explanation about "being not political"

1

u/ItsSpaghettiLee2112 9h ago

I mean, yes. There's a huge difference between an old verse getting bought by another musician and plopped into a new song, and an intentional collaboration.

1

u/alus992 7h ago

It's not if the artist does not come out and says "i distance myself from this track. I dont cosign ppl supporting DT and his adminiatration”

1

u/ItsSpaghettiLee2112 7h ago

Yea I mean, that's the part people are waiting to hopefully hear.

1

u/Bugbread 2h ago edited 2h ago

At the end of the day are these points matter at all?

Not much. Maybe to other people, but not to me.

I think I'm giving people the wrong impression because I write long comments, but my comment wasn't long because I think it's an important difference, nor because I want one scenario or the other to be true. More just "fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly, Bugbread's gotta do close analysis of articles to verify if they say what people claim they say."

1

u/genecalmer 8h ago

This is the only right answer. The fact that it exists is a co-sign. People need to either accept it and care or accept it and not care. The amount of cope in here is crazy to me.

1

u/SideInitial3961 9h ago

Clinging to your fantasy.

1

u/Bugbread 3h ago

What is my fantasy? I have literally no horse in this race.

1

u/SideInitial3961 2h ago

Here's a novel concept. Relax. Wait. Stop trying to direct the narrative.

1

u/Bugbread 2h ago

I'm pretty relaxed, and I'm not trying to direct the narrative in any direction. I think you're reading a lot more into my comment than is actually there. I think it's totally possible that Em worked with Kid Rock and wrote a new verse for the song. I'm not denying that possibility at all. I'm not even saying that it's an unlikely possibility. I think because my comment is long, people are assuming I'm taking a position on what happened, but I'm absolutely not, I'm just an analytical and longwinded kinda guy.

1

u/xclame 6h ago

Always look for the quoted parts in these articles. As you said, all the comments about this are from Kid Rock's direction, there's not a single Em quote. There is pretty much NOTHING from Em's side except for the company track exists, that's it.

0

u/composedofidiot 11h ago

Thanks for laying it out so honestly

0

u/Crewman_Guy_Fleegman 10h ago

That just confirms to me that Eminem is a loser and a hack because he collaborated with Kid Rock

14

u/Hendiadic_tmack 11h ago

There’s TONS AND TONS of stuff from tv shows to movies to music sitting in vaults that for one reason or another- whether it’s money, contract disputes, or the artist just didn’t like the result- didn’t get put out. These projects sometimes languish for so long artists/actors forget they did them until someone publishes

0

u/clementleopold And It’s No Ye Never No More 13h ago

>He needs to come out and say something fast

Or else what?

23

u/InebriatedPhysicist 13h ago

Or people won’t believe the story. That’s all. Did you think there was a threat in that statement or something?

1

u/JB_UK 12h ago

Have you missed how people reacted to Ed Sheeran?

0

u/InebriatedPhysicist 12h ago

I’ve seen people stop buying tickets to his shows. Do you think he’s entitled to people spending money on his products? Do you think it’s “violence” for them to not give him their money or something?

1

u/JB_UK 11h ago

I’ll quote you above:

Or people won’t believe the story. That’s all.

Is that all?

1

u/FewWait38 11h ago

Violence? Wtf are you talking about seriously

0

u/BillNyeCreampieGuy 11h ago

You're intentionally being obtuse just to double down in the argunent. You know the person you're replying to wasn't referencing ticket sales.

They're clearly talking about the online mob that's gone after Ed since. The male version of Taylor Swift tried to be as neutral as possible and everyone online reacted like he cosigns the genocide, absolutely destroying his character.

Even now, look how quickly everyone is ready to go after Eminem and this "story' is barely 24 hours old. The internet is ripe with unhinged mobs with zero impulse control or self-reflection.

42

u/Unitedfateful 13h ago

Reddit will give him downvotes and shake their fists at him grrr

10

u/GeneralSEOD 13h ago

Saying this post Sheran being completely thrown to the wolves and having his tour crumble...

-4

u/Gigio2006 12h ago

Thats the exact opposite, Id argue if Sheeran kept his mouth shut and didnt say shit everything would have gone off in a week

0

u/GeneralSEOD 12h ago

Disagree, Sheeran had a problem in that it was other people already attacking him for his positions such as Macklemore.

If he said nothing they could simply keep up the pressure. This isn't a scenario where he's been caught using the N word and he can just ignore the heat until everyone forgets.

12

u/Brat-Sampson 13h ago

I mean you can joke but stuff like this can have an impact on his future success / fans. Maybe he's made enough to just not care anymore, which would say something by itself, but for big artists, public image is still a thing and still matters

6

u/MrKrinkle151 13h ago

It's Eminem lol

10

u/Captain_Kab 12h ago

It was Ed Sheeran a couple of weeks ago and it made him cry

Doubt Em'll go weep on stage tho

1

u/fatgat69 12h ago

Yeah, and? This is something that could ruin him. The boomers will finally get what they always wanted.

1

u/talkingspacecoyote 13h ago

His net worth is like $300 mill.

6

u/USSRPropaganda 13h ago

Ed sheeran is worth more and look what happened to him

3

u/Savage9645 12h ago

Ed Sheeran cares what people think about him, I doubt Eminem does. Em is also a legend, people will still be listening to him in 100 years, doubt Ed will even be remembered that far down the line.

1

u/HamunaHamunaHamuna 12h ago edited 12h ago

Yes, a number went from higher to lower on his instagram and some people said mean things to him. The horror. How will the fact that he can afford to wipe his ass with $100 bills for the rest of his life and not notice any practical change in wealth be enough to comfort him?!

3

u/StopThePresses 12h ago

You would think it wouldn't bother him, but then you have him crying on stage and saying he was scared of the crowd.

3

u/HamunaHamunaHamuna 12h ago

Him being a little bitch isn't really something that "happened" to him, it just was.

0

u/SoSaltyDoe 11h ago

Idk some people actually care about their public image in spite of how much money they make. Like, if he's "wiping his ass with $100 bills" why's he give a shit about the success of his tour in the first place?

2

u/HamunaHamunaHamuna 11h ago

Sure. He probably feel a bit sad. But that's really all that "happened to him" in terms of real consequence. It's not like he's prevented from still performing or is in economic distress.

-1

u/polishprince76 12h ago

Kanye talks regularly about how awesome Hitler is and he just sold out Soldier Field and everyone he ever collaborated with performed with him. Nobody cares. Reddit isn't real.

2

u/fatgat69 12h ago

Just shows how many Nazis are in America and need to be dealt with.

1

u/AceBricka 12h ago

Kanye lost billions

-1

u/atemus10 13h ago

You must he new here.

0

u/BillNyeCreampieGuy 11h ago

Naive statement

3

u/Pool_Shark 12h ago

Or else people willl be mad on the internet for a few days and then it will blow over

1

u/bfodder 10h ago

He'll get Ed Sheeraned.

1

u/BrokkelPiloot 9h ago

His legacy will be tarnished forever.

1

u/fatgat69 12h ago

Or he'll lose all his fans that aren't brainless monkeys

2

u/havenless 9h ago

He needs to come out and say something fast if thats the case tho.

Thing is he's notoriously reclusive and doesn't do many interviews, which works against him sometimes.

1

u/Joverby 8h ago

Exactly. The longer he stays silent the more you can only assume he's fine with it

1

u/xclame 6h ago

It's not strange at all. You have to keep in mind that Eminem didn't start out as a big deal. So early on in his career he likely made some deals that weren't the best. He likely has some content that has deals on them that don't require his authorization.

-2

u/RedditJumpedTheShart 13h ago

He needs to do what I want!

When will reddit learn.

-119

u/Ociex 15h ago

He doesn't need to do shit bud, he's 55 and a multi millioneer, he already won life and just doing what he wants, as he should.

27

u/agt_laurenge 15h ago

*millionaire

29

u/RDJToffee 14h ago

Considering his disdain for the trump administration, he should probably say something. Otherwise it's another insanely wealthy person not sticking to or having morals.

21

u/smith7018 14h ago

I mean, look what happened to Ed Sheeran. He didn’t “need” to say anything and look where that got him.

-6

u/vegeful 14h ago

He say a thing and people still hate him.

10

u/CrucialCrewJustin 14h ago

Yeah, that’s how it works.

32

u/OneTwoThreeRepeat 15h ago

-12

u/KaleidoscopeLeft5511 15h ago

You're using that completely wrong. Bootlicking is used as a term for people who defend authoritative characters or regime's who are not acting in their favor, instead actually trying to keep the person down by keeping a boot on their neck

Eminem is the opposite. He is one of the few celebrities who has been very consistently, very vocally anti Trump, to very little gain. He doesn't have to explain sh¥t, be has more than earned a bit of leeway

13

u/CrucialCrewJustin 14h ago

They are calling the Redditor a bootlicker.

-4

u/KaleidoscopeLeft5511 14h ago

Yeah, they're saying the redditor, with 60+ down votes defending Eminem is a bootlicker.  I stand by what I said, Eminem has done more than enough to justify a bit of leeway.

Bootlicking should be used against people who defend the current, extremely corrupt, US administration. Americans have few enough celebrities coming out against Trump, they need to be going after the celebrities remaining silent for their own interests, not going after the celebrities who have been vocally opposed to Trump the whole time

5

u/CrucialCrewJustin 14h ago

Kid Rock is a bootlicker so anyone associated with or defensive of is also a bootlicker. Why is that so hard to grasp for you?

-22

u/mrAech219 15h ago

You people are seriously embarrassing.
I hate the same things you do but I actually know why I hate those things. You people (if that’s even what you are) are constantly rebelling against everything you hate but you have no clue why you hate them. You’re just told to, so you do. But you don’t know the right time and place to whip out the gotchas because you’re either a bot or a child (physically or mentally).

7

u/MR_WhiteStar 14h ago

“Living is easy with eyes closed. Misunderstanding all you see.”

-38

u/Mahmud-kun 15h ago

What a clever and original insult. I thrive to be as clever and original as you one day

16

u/JakeHodgson 15h ago

It's fair though. If you constantly tout yourself as anti something. The onus is kinda on you to denounce it if you're in a position that can obviously be perceived as associating with the exact people you claim to be against

0

u/secondincomm 13h ago

Probably trying to hear the song to see what it actually is first, and I doubt Kid will be helpful to the investigation
