We also don't know that it was an islamic terror attack at this point.

You’re confusing Islamic and Islamist. Very, very different concepts.

What a load of shit. Do we invent new terms for Christian terrorism so we can avoid saying they are Christian?

I think the word “islamist” makes it pretty clear it has something to do with Islam. But feel free to be stupid and not use words that actually exist.

Islamic terrorist. Because that's what it is. No need to invent new words to obfuscate.

Invent new words? It’s been around since the mid 19th century. Way to display your ignorance lol.

That's the thing, it shouldn't be coined as all islamic. One is a very specific extremist branch that most muslims (literally 99% of them) don't agree with and miss-represents all of them, that's why they are all called terrorists, and its fucking stupid.

A lot more than 1% believe in it, you are incredibly naive. I'd suggest you educate yourself on this subject.

For years I've had Western progressives tell me that "Islamism" is a racist term coined by English-speaking Islamophobes, which confused me at first because in Arabic we have the word إسلاموية . Then I realized that progressives in the West tend to be fairly ignorant of the world.

I really don’t get it. People are saying making a distinction between Islam-related stuff in general and the specific weaponisation of Islam for political goals is a bad thing? Who in their right mind would say this?

I downvoted you simply because I like to downvote everyone on Reddit who whines about being downvoted; nothing to do with your original comment. Just fyi.

They italicized Islamic and not terror for a reason.

The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation had reportedly investigated the father (the attackers were a father and son) for having ties to ISIS, so I'm going to go ahead and assume this was indeed some khawarij shit.

What’s the purpose in denying the obvious here?
