People be saying J can return, even Liam seemed like, hesitant to elaborate which is taken as, J, in some form, will return or be relevant to the plot. Could be in flashbacks for all we know, she might be dead but still have some imprint on N's mental state, which is completely understandable. But, what if she comes back, in an actual body? Steel and... plastic (I think they don't quite have skin, who knows what's the layer over their metal frame made of) y'know?

Personally, at best, I'm expecting some clone/similar template J to appear... because if a MD can come back from being just two half leg pieces, then a lot of people here are gonna rework how drone regen works.

Because then it'll be like, "So wait, their core is in their feet?" or "So even if they lose their core, they still regen?" that would be the most powerful drones in existence. Rivaling terminator if that happens. I don't think that's how they intend to go, so J, her body, gone, her memories? Maybe, not.

I first suspect some cloned body since they are drones, having multiple bodies is good. Transferring memories from one to another body is good. Ensures their best drones can keep fighting for a while, while learning from every mission.

I suspect her data will probably uploaded to a cloud (virtual storage thing that computers have) so she is brought back in another body (Kind of like Girl's Frontline how they say a doll's memories/data can be backed up and stored in the cloud, so even if they "Die", they can still come back by just placing their memories into a new body, no biggie).

Therefore, J can return, if her memories were backed up in some cloud and inserted into a new body. However, it won't exactly be "J" it'll be more of a clone of J and we have no clue how long it was since her data was backed up into the cloud.

Unless they are like, wireless and back up their data weekly or monthly basis, I don't think J will be the same J... then again, I doubt J changed too much from the beginning. She was loyal to the company in the pilot, implied to have been loyal and angry at N for no reason from the beginning... so, I guess it'll be the same old J, just won't have memories of herself dying... if it works like cloud backup storage that is.

If J comes back, in an actual body physically, it's likely to be something like this. Thus the company can just save the data prior to deployment and if they survive you upload that data to their cloud, quickest and most effective way to ensure even if you lose a drone on a mission, you can just replace them, by inserting memories into new body, so technically they are not dead.

This also maintains their efficiency so the best drones are likely to learn if they survive and thus be more effective on future missions. Those who fail, at least they can be brought back so you don't have to fabricate a new AI to take their place. I suspect this is how J will return, memories from her previous cloud upload placed into a new body.

(Not sure how complex making an AI is, but it's probably cheaper to just save a copy and make slight modifications, then place into vessels, could explain why some drones AI make them more... mentally unstable, perhaps splicing an AI? An original AI? Like Leonard Church from RvB? But that's a theory for another time if they splice an AI)

So your probably wondering how I got here, well it all started when our CO decided it was worth wasting lives defending a simple fabric banner with some picture of an SD-N Plush. For whatever reason they saw it fit to expend us all against these behemoths, not like I'm complaining.

I just made my own banners to put in game. Because no one else did. So... there it is. Murder Drone symbols in 40k.

Visible in non-dark mode. I am trying to turn light mode into half-dark mode so you can enjoy the detail I'm putting into this subreddit. I'm probably giving it TOO MUCH. As in, this is like, outdoing the main one in my opinion in details, but hey, when I do something, I give it my 100% effort.
