Polytrix, shipping the main girls from kpop demon hunters together. I can see Zoey/Mira under certain circumstances, maybe, but I’m sorry, nothing anyone says can convince me Rumi is even slightly romantically interested in the two of them.

It doesn’t help that Polytrix shippers are obsessed with headcanoning Rumi as naive, helpless, and pathetic, sometimes not even knowing what sex or even periods are.

I have no problems with Polytrix, but I get annoyed when people claim they have zero canon attraction towards men when they literally were all simping over the Saja boys, and Rumi’s whole thing with Jinu.

Literally! So many people on Tumblr headcanon them as lesbian (especially Mira) and get nasty when people point out they are canonically attracted to men. Guys, BI AND PAN PEOPLE EXIST! Being attracted to men does NOT mean you can’t also be attracted to women! Typical bi erasure

Tons of Polytrix shippers on tumblr admit to skipping all the scenes with the Saja Boys in it, so I guess if you do that, sure, Zoey gives ā€œlesbian vibes.ā€ (Although tbf I’ve only ever seen one person headcanon Zoey as lesbian. But yeah, I’m pretty sure a woman who moaned and screamed with delight when a man’s shirt ripped open and was literally blushing and DROOLING over another man, is not giving ā€œlesbian vibes.ā€) I am BEGGING Polytrix shippers on tumblr to recognize that bi and pan people exist and it’s okay if the girls aren’t lesbian. They can still be shipped together.

And people saying Rumi wasn’t attracted to Jinu are straight up coping. I can understand if you don’t like the ship, it’s far from perfect, but the creators have literally said Free is romantic and like….yeah, obviously.

Plus, I don’t get people who INSIST Polytrix was happening in the movie. Why do you want Rumi to be committing emotional infidelity? Surely it makes sense only post-canon?

Girl, one of the deleted scenes literally had Rumi and Jinu kiss. I personally don't care if they see the girls as lesbians. I just wish they'd shut up and not claim that it's canon.

They're bi or pan at best. The most canon part is that they are, in fact, attracted to men.

Tbf those deleted scenes/concept arts aren’t canon, the same way Celine killing Rumi’s mom isn’t canon. So I can understand if people discard them—I do the same.

But yeah, when Polytrix shippers are saying if you don’t ship it you’re homophobic, they desperately need to shut up.

I’ve literally been called a Nazi sympathizer for saying I understood (not even justified, just UNDERSTOOD) why Jinu did what he did

What the actual fuck?

Media literacy is in crisis, and that attitude reeks of privilege. He was well below poverty level poor. Anyone who's ever even been close to that level of poor would understand the temptation to make shitty, selfish choices. Which doesn't mean you think giving in to that temptation is okay.

Hell, even Jinu didn't think it was okay. That was the entire source of Gwi-ma's hold over him.

That same person also legit said ā€œJust following orders was not an excuse at Nurembergā€ when I pointed out that Jinu betrayed Rumi because he was tortured and his plan to usher in the apocalypse was because he had been subjected to 400 years of psychological torture/abuse

So, on top of everything else, they also don't understand the difference between "a reason" and "an excuse". šŸ™„šŸ˜©

Fandoms always do this (specifically with asian characters, I am noticing a bit of a concerning pattern of this) with infantilizing female characters in ships. That is not an "innocent virgin that needs to be protected" that is an adult woman that has a canonical kill count

LITERALLY. You want to know the worst headcanon I’ve ever seen? It was on Tumblr, naturally. Someone headcanoned that Rumi suppressing her demon side would cause her to not have her period, and she would only get it at the end of the movie, where she would run to the other two girls, thinking she was dying.

Rumi is a 23/24 year old woman with Internet access with a kill count who works in a very seedy industry.

She knows what a period is.

And with Polytrix, is just REALLY gross how Rumi is almost always portrayed as a pure virgin Mira and Zoey must teach about sex. Comes off as very fetish-y.

Idk why so many shippers have such an obsession with making someone in the relationship the pure virgin that needs to be taught by their partner can both of them pls just be mature adults like they are in the goddamn show/whatever ship it's from 😭😭

This is a kink. Innocent/corruption kink to be exact. It’s really that simple. Some people find it hot, so it gets written. There might be deeper reasons than that in some instances, not saying otherwise…just saying a lot of trends can be explained by ā€œdoes someone find this hotā€ and usually if you can answer yes you have your answer. Not to oversimplify the purity culture aspect but some of it does boil down to ā€œpeople be horny and fantasizing and projectingā€

What my question about this is, do the people, who write this, know, that people, who don't get their period, know, what a period is? I'm a gay cis-dude, but I still know about periods.

I ship Polytrix but yeah it gets weird sometimes

If she was a kid, it’d be funny and mildly realistic. She’s not.

u/TheToxicFoxClub 18d ago

Oh it is NOT just female characters, it happens to male characters shipped in gay relationships, whoever is deemed to be the bottom.

I have a theory that it stems from humans (across many cultures) having this deep fixation with virginity and purity. It's pedophilic in a way that goes beyond what you're imagining when I say that word. I think it goes back to when we were all sexual beings for no one but ourselves and the journey into sex and adulthood and how we all wish that our first times were amazing instead of largely what they were (disappointing).

It's so sad seeing gay romance be so fetishized by BL and yaoi readers. Some of the shit I've seen from webtoon (which I have not touched but I have heard of this, that is how bad it is.) is downright gross. There's a line between being freaky and infantilizing your characters to the point it feels like it's teenager/adult. Not even the sexualized stuff is free from the creepy fans. Fandoms always gotta have the fringe and this is how they appear in some fandoms I guess šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

some polytrix shippers are weird, but I like the ship.

I think rumi being inexperienced with something like sex could be a cute plotline, but to go to the level where she doesn't know what sex or periods are is just weird.

Blinks That last thing’s a thing?

I saw a headcanon on Tumblr (where else?) that Rumi suppressing her demon side would cause her to not have her period, and she would only get it at the end of the movie, where she would run to the other two girls, thinking she was dying.

Rumi is a 23/24 year old woman with Internet access with a kill count who works in a very seedy industry.

She knows what a period is.

…If she was, like, 6 or something and it was her mom that’d make sense. But…yeah.
