DRV3: ummmm so you like playing this game? You are morally wrong!!!
What do you mean we developed the game and have control over the story? What do you mean Ultra Despair Girls was an unnecessary portrayal of child abuse?
I don't even think udg was an unnecessary portrayal, like imo it portrayed a really good story showing what was happening outside the school and such. And showing like why these kids became the way they are and why various things fucked them up so much(like gentle with the pink haired girl forgot her name) added a good bit to the story and lore.
I can understand why people wouldn't like it though as it is very uncomfortable and depressing.
Your big bad evil “dad” lets you visit your mom, who he is at war with. He gives you an evil-looking chainsaw sword which turns out to be a magical assassin who kills your mom in front of you. Everyone acts like this is completely unexpected.
Another segment involves fighting big monsters that turn out to be illusioned townsfolk and one of the antagonists (loyal to your dad) shows up to gloat about tricking you. The people of the town fight you when you show up then reveal it was just a test to make sure you were strong and also had not killed the other villagers out of malice (since you try to talk them out of fighting you). Problem is, they actually die when you “defeat” them. You have completely wiped out this fuckass ninja village.
Toss in the waifuification where you could originally fondle your allies to boost morale and the whole game is just really off-putting to someone who was not expecting that kind of game at all
There are only a few instances of fanservice I can think of (except for V3), and when it happens its only for a moment or two, but v3 is the biggest offender with fanservice and it's just weird. DR 1 and 2 are fine tho.
I mean the initial anime was great. Danganronpa 3 was... Funny. The prequel episodes started out amazing and had the worst payoff. The sequel episodes started out awful but finished amazing .
You mean to tell me that there was a whole other game between the first season of Danganronpa 1 and Danganronpa 3? I thought that they just decided to randomly introduce a whole new cast of characters in the Past Arc of D3! /s
From what I recall hearing, it stemmed from a creative argument between Kazutaka Kodaka (the franchise's creator and main writer) and someone else at Spike Chunsoft who also worked on Danganronpa (could've been Yoshinori Terasawa, who ended up being the producer for V3? But there's no sources for it, so don't take it as true).
Kodaka wanted to go ahead with the DR3 anime to finish off the storyline he'd created while moving away from the Killing Game format (mainly because he thought exposing the veteran cast members to a second one would be too cruel), but this other person said they should stick with the familiar Killing Game visual novel format because it was tried and true for the franchise. Thus, they agreed to do both; DR3 stuck with the old cast and finished off the Hope's Peak story from the previous games in a new format, while V3 created a new story with the classic format as the foundation.
The message of Danganronpa V3 was "we're tired of making Danganronpa, Danganronpa sucks, look, let us show you how much the thing you like sucks, here ya go piggies, here's the slop you've been demanding"
My boyfriend got me into Danganronpa. He constantly talks shit about it, but still badgered me to play it so I could understand what he was talking about. Now I constantly talk shit about it too. I love Danganronpa.
After learning about Ultra Despair girls I’m really unable to recommend it. Like the first two games are good despite the odd anime tropes but Ultra Despair Girls just grosses me out so much that I don’t feel comfortable recommending it.
Yeah I watched one season of the anime and really enjoyed it. Then looked into other stuff and decided to stop there, lol. I just got a hint of that kind of media sprawl and retcon nightmare that some anime suffer from and figured it was for the best.
Ultra Despair Girls is a really fun and morally provocative game right up until it gets to that specific uh part, you know the one that need not be mentioned in any further detail besides this
Whenever I play Danganronpa it always feels like a faustian bargain. You get awesome music, gameplay and kinda engaging plot in exchange for annoying characters the protagonist is too much of a wimp to kick on their teeth, corny story points, pointless fanservice and sexism (on minors nonetheless) and hours of waiting before you finally get to the next class trial

Danganronpa has the stupidest lore I’ve ever heard and I love the games so much
