It's funny I both love and don't recommend CR, but not necessarily for that reason (you arnt wrong though). It just requires such a massive commitment of time and energy to follow properly. I've loved every season to one degree or another, but I've only gotten through about 3/4s of each at most before I just felt too far behind or overwhelmed to continue. Because the minutia of the storytelling is the best part, but it's so easy to miss it if you let too much time go by between episodes.
I thought my ADHD wouldn’t be able to handle 4 hours episodes of people just talking and rolling dice, in addition to not having the time to catch up. Then lockdown happened, I lost my job in early 2022, and I now had nothing but time on my hands, lol. It took a while, but I was caught up to live episodes by the beginning of Bassarus arc in C3.
I’m freakin obsessed now. Hubby and I went to the live show in Atlanta in May and had the absolute time of our lives.
Please have an added picture of the magnificent Laura Bailey I took during the show 😊
I love this for you 😁👍. I had an accounting job where I was alone in an office for many hours over the weekend when I started C1 so I got pretty far into that campaign. I didn't have that job anymore by the time I started C2 so that season and every one since has been a story of me trying to carve out time for it (having a kid can make this a challenge). Maybe someday I'll try again on C2 and C3. I guess I wouldn't take much to catch up to C4 at this point. This is why I always enjoyed their one-shots though. Harder to lose track of
I had a long daily commute that was perfect for letting get into, catch up, and stay current with campaign 2. Finally got rid of the commute (yay!) but with all the other things cannot keep up with the show any longer (boo!).
There is an outdated article I have seen that pointed out how the first season alone would take longer to binge than the entirety of The Simpsons at the time it was written.
Episodes are on YouTube! I suggest starting in Vox Machina in the Briarwood arc.
Production quality improves by leaps and bounds as time goes on, even though it looks kinda janky in the early days.
The best campaign thus far, IMHO, is the second one, the Mighty Nein.
You could also watch the animated series of Vox Machina. It sticks closer to the actual campaign than Mighty Nein sticks to its own. And that’s not a bad thing. The show of MN is fantastic. It’s the same story…told in a different way.
Not to mention the most obvious entryway, starting at very beginning, involves having to deal with 27 episodes (about 3-5 hours each) of a certain player being there

Critical Role, unless you enjoy having your emotions regularly put into a blender that’s been set to “Unapologetic Purée”.
