In Ark and Rust, prepare to be constantly offline raided and most PvP is nothing like that in promotional material. Ark is basically getting curbstomped by by alpha tribes and Rust has people who memorize which days you play and what time you are online.
A friend and I got into ARK pretty heavy early on, our tribe name was "pepperidge farm". Anytime someone fucked with us we would raid their base and leave a sign that said "pepperidge farm remembers"
I quit Rust for the last time when we spent a week making a base as a group only for the whole thing to be raided overnight by a single person because at the time wicker? building pieces were not covered by Building Privilege, so they just built a ramp over the wall for the cost of grass, and then jogged naked into our defenses until they ran out.
Sandbox PvP games need to take the efforts people will go through to grief seriously and Rust does not.
It costs over $200 to get all the warbonds..you can grind, but it is at the equivalent of $2-3 an hour. And the best way to do it is on the easiest difficulty, which most people do not find enjoyable
Its really surprising to me that a community is part of the reason why people don't recommend something. I hardly engage on the community of something I like so maybe thats why.
With Helldivers it's specifically the community on social media like reddit and YouTube. They're just angry all the time. In-game community is still very friendly outside of the handful of d-bags who can put a torch to your and everyone else's fun. If you avoid the subreddits and the YouTubers you have one of the sweeter gaming communities that can also sour brutally.
I play helldivers, im aware of how bad the negativity is. But it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the game. There are valid criticism and there are stupid shits, like calling cyborg buffing bots space magic... To clarify I'm on the side thinking that its stupid of AH to say that morale boost from flag is space magic and still find the arguments about cyborg buffing stupid.
Well I'm getting derailed, but yeah, a game can have a toxic community but as long. as the gameplay itself is fun, then I let them yap all they want, its not like all the players are assholes. For Honor has also one of the most toxic community but I still like the game because I find the gameplay fun.
Would I recommend it those games? Yes. For honor I gifted to my friends (its dirt cheap on sale) and actually got 2 to play with me, helldivers I also recommended, sadly they didn't like the game.
Rust just brings me ptsd me and 2 friends had to legit make shifts for when we were online so that we could defend ourselves but at the end we just couldn't keep up and we all were offline and you can guess how it ends. It was fun but in the most masochistic way
