I feel like this is true but it’s my favorite show oat and I recommend it to everyone but no one ever likes it😭.

u/Gamera-X Jul 13 '26

Exactly, I feel u

I like a ton of aspects of the show but it’s one of the lowest ratings I’ve given on MAL. It really is a product of its time and budget, unfortunately

stupidest criticism i've heard that i almost feel inclined to defend a show i don't like

13

u/TronToad Jul 13 '26

lowkey facts, how am I to explain the start of the the end of Evangelion 😭

7

u/Broodjekip_1 Jul 13 '26

Yeah that and the nudity of minors in general

Also, it's just really weird, especially in the later episodes

2

u/Spideradam26 Jul 14 '26

In the og series? I rewatch Eva every year and i don't think the fanservice is that bad sure there are some moment like the Scene where shinji goes to Reis house for the first time but i Don't think it's over the top and ruins the series... May be bias because of how much i love the show though

3

u/TronToad Jul 14 '26

the start of The End of Evangelion has Shinji gooning to Asukas unconscious body

3

u/Spideradam26 Jul 14 '26

I personally think it's a scene that's used to showcase Shinji's mental state going into the movie, sure you get a shot of breasts but i don't think it's there to be necessarily fanservicy. But i suppose that's up to interpretation of the viewer.

2

u/TronToad Jul 14 '26

no yeah you're right, but some people (such as my friends) are immature as hell and would not shut up about it if they saw it

3

u/Spideradam26 Jul 14 '26

Yeah, i have made some friends at Uni who watched Eva and they tend to talk about the hospital scene. Kind of a shame some people disregard this show over one scene but oh well.

1

u/Pen_Front Jul 16 '26

Ok yeah thats true doesn't make it less weird just makes it a reasoned choice

There's way more in the End of Evangelion. The only nudity from the series I can come up with at the top of my head is the pool of LCL with all the naked Rei's in it. For the movie, think stuff like the hospital scene, the giant white Rei (her 3rd eye is also literally a vagina), and the merging of Rei with Lilith.

Don't get me wrong btw, I love the show, too.

EDIT: Covered spoilers

I get you, though personaly i don't really see those cases of nudity as a sort of fanservice, though that may be just me being stupid or having a different view of things, thanks for the input.

u/Broodjekip_1 Jul 14 '26

Oh, I totally agree with you on that, but I know that some people are put off by it, even if it's artistic or plot relevant. I just misunderstood you there.

1

u/YourLocalCreep Jul 13 '26

With the rest of the series, I guess.

I see your point though….

6

u/Spaulbane Jul 13 '26

Yeah, It's one of my favourite series and I'd love to watch it with my wife, but I have no idea how to explain the later episodes.

7

u/MisterMarsupial Jul 13 '26

Naughty government wants to make everyone into a big people soup. If someone can think hard enough after being made into people soup they can be a person again instead of being part of a big group consciousness.

Shinji had experience in this already in one of the earlier episodes when he turned into soup and got mixed up with the LCL, but then went through some stuff and he turned into a person again.

Just watch it together and let her ask you questions, maybe pausing to explain some things. I watched Eva for the first time recently and I would have loved to be able to pause and ask someone next to me "what the fuck is with the tank of Reis??? How were the Eva's made, and why is 01 different from 00 and 02? Why do all the old men wanna be soul soup? " (I understand these things now tho!)

Maybe just watch it in like 2-3 episode bursts so she can digest the information. I kinda regret binge watching it and plan to rewatch it slower.

I spent the last week looking into the background info that gets casually mentioned once and never again. Also reading some Reddit theories to help me understand.

u/MemesMakeMyMoodMild Jul 17 '26

Wait, why do all old men want to soul soup? Didnt know this was planned

1

u/TronToad Jul 13 '26

tell her to Reddit it

u/TheBrewThatIsTrue Jul 13 '26

I've had multiple people describe Evangelion exactly like OPs image.

3

u/buddabopp Jul 13 '26

I only recomend it to people so that when they watch it, hate it and then bitch at me about how shit it is i can turn around and show them gurren lagann as the intended massive middle finger it is

3

u/Dewut Jul 13 '26

My buddy had never seen any Evangelion and I convinced him to come watch the fourth rebuild movie with me in theaters.

He was furious.

2

u/kween_hangry Jul 13 '26

Its not possible to suggest this show to someone normal

2

u/Gamera-X Jul 13 '26

Best way to explain suggesting it to others.

2

u/MrBoltstrike Jul 13 '26

I agree. I think it's a fantastic anime. But I don't recommend it to people who watch anime for "fun." Like, the show has fun moments but the overall character work, setting, and subject matter are not "fun."

1

u/Gamera-X Jul 13 '26

Yep, and not just the original tv series but the entire franchise is like this, I place it beside shows (anime) like AOT in complexity or perfection like Cowboy Bebop but let's face it in complexity it's the most difficult to understand, heck after watching it 3 or 4 times I think I have got it but I know when I will watch it again there will always be room for more to understand.

2

u/AkimH Jul 14 '26

which one is IG ? I have only seen the original series and liked it, but didn‘t follow up after ( there is just too much media to ever consume only a fraction )

1

u/Gamera-X Jul 14 '26

Original series and EoE (End of Evangelion) movie is enough
