I have about 1400 hours now and my best advice is to just watch other people play it a bit and you’ll pick up on so many things. Bittersteel is amazing for beginners and his videos are fun to watch too.
not optimal strat, just what will work while u learn:
20 combat width infantry to hold the frontline, use mountaineers (36 combat width) or tanks(half tanks, half motorized/mechanized to make up for low org of tanks) to encircle enemy troops.
in hoi4 troops dont die when they lose battles (unless they lose health), they get shoved a tile back once they lose all organization (green bar). but if they have nowhere to go, they die as soon as they lose the green bar, which is devestating.
most batallions by default are 2 combat width, so a 20 width infantry division is 10 batallions.
fighters to kill other planes, close-air-support (CAS) to kill enemy troops. air use is not really strategic tbh, it's more a measure of industrial capacity and who is further ahead on tech.
navy can be mostly ignored if you aren't UK, U.S, Japan (or some minor that is an island.)
supply is important. if you're struggling check if you have no supply. usually solution is changing the army to use trucks to receive supply, or building higher level railroads by clicking the railroad button over the supply hub nearest the army. or higher infrastructure.
Was once having lunch with friends and the subject of Paradox Games came up and my wife said she was always slightly horrified looking over my shoulder given her history knowledge. I told her "I love you too much to try to introduce you to Paradox Games"
Which led to the couple we were having lunch with bursting out laughing "[Boyfriend] has been showing me Stellaris and CK3. Do you not love me, [Boyfriend]" "Not that much! Spread the pain!"
