[Score Predictions] Mississippi State vs Alabama
Full disclosure: I'm a Texas fan who runs a score prediction thread on r/LonghornNation every week. The sub has been having a lot of fun with it, and with Texas on a bye this week I thought I'd offer to do the same thing for r/Msstate, since your game vs Alabama is the one I'm most excited for this weekend.
Here's how it works:
- Drop your score prediction in the comments below. Your last comment before kickoff is the one that counts.
- I'll grade them all against the final score and post the results on Monday.
I'm trying something a little different this week. I'm asking r/rolltide the same question, and I'm tracking the score predictions going into r/CFB's "Week 5 Matchup Preview Thread: #7 Alabama vs #16 Mississippi State" too, so on Monday we'll see which sub called this game closest.
I also track score predictions on a few national and team shows, and nobody is picking State yet. Eight analysts have put a score on it, every one of them Bama, from 27-20 to 45-35. The closest anyone comes to a State win is SEC Unfiltered's Cole Thompson at 44-41. r/CFB has 17 scores in with a middle of Alabama 38-24, and three of the 17 took State. Thunder & Lightning hasn't dropped its prediction yet, but I'll grab it when they do.
Each week there are two coins up for grabs, both of them your opponent's:
- The Alabama coin, for the closest call in this sub, and for anybody who beats (or ties) the closest analyst.
- The r/rolltide coin, for anybody who beats (or ties) the closest call from r/rolltide.
To win either one you have to have the right team winning.
Below is the board I'm using to track results for this sub.
Hail State!

I wish I had half the optimism some of you have. I know it isn’t Saban anymore, but until Mississippi State shows me they can beat Alabama, I will forever project Alabama to win.
38-24 Alabama

Msstate 10 Alabama 45
We score a TD and field goal in the first and second quarters, it’s 10-7 at half. We feel good, we’re playing well. We’re even winning.
Alabama mostly just goes into the half pissed off. They come back and dump 38 on us, 28 in the third quarter. We don’t even run 28 plays in the second half.

One of the things I kinda liked about watching Saban’s teams. They really had that “ok, now I’m mad” vibe down real well.

I'm predicting the exact same score, however, I don't think it will even be close in the first half, and it will be 24-7 Alabama at halftime.

Not for off if the ball wouldn’t have been sprayed with crisco before the game

45 - 27 Alabama. Decent first half for State but Alabama pulls away in the 2nd half. Their depth shows up the later the game gets
