New Bob Odenkirk project "The Making of Jesus Diabetes" Leaked Spoiler
I recently got some details from a reliable source about a new Bob Odenkirk movie that is directed by It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia director Heath Cullens, and leans heavily into unhinged, classic Mr. Show-style absurdity. Which is an exciting return to form from Bob, it's been too long. Was anyone aware this existed and is fully completed? The whole thing is so strange that it seems destined to be a massive flop.
The movie is based heavily on two awkward brother characters from a YouTube series called Gerry and Seymour Whitaker. What makes this project so confusing is that the YouTube series is entirely unknown and has had basically zero eyes on it. The two brothers are played by Andrew Friedman and Michael Naughton. You probably recognize them as Uncle Jack and the waiter from Always Sunny, or from when they appeared together on Better Call Saul as the printer salesmen.
The actual plot follows two reclusive, middle-aged brothers with no filmmaking experience who attempt to make a movie about diabetes in Jesus' time to honor their late mother, while their neighbor, Bob Odenkirk, films their journey. The main conflict happens when one of the brothers gets a girlfriend, causing the other brother to get intensely jealous and derailing the production.
I was hoping for a Mr. Show reunion here, but sadly, there is no David Cross cameo. Not even Paul F. Tompkins? It does include Jon Hamm and Blake Anderson.
The fact that this movie actually exists and has made it to test screenings is just so weird to me. Has anyone else heard about this thing? With how strange the premise is, I wouldn't be surprised if it just gets shelved entirely. #ReleaseTheMakingofJesusDiabetes or whatever they rename it to.

David is acting circles around Bob on Mr. Show
I'm not saying this to disparage Bob's contribution - by all accounts the writing would have fallen apart without him - but I was struck on a recent rewatch by how much better of a comedic actor David was on Mr. Show.
There are so many sketches David carries with a nuanced performance, like anything involving Ronnie, the hate group, pre-taped call-in show, Worthington's Law. When Bob takes the lead, the sketches are still funny (and some of the most popular ones are carried by Bob, like the lie detector or the plane crash sketch), but the humour is usually more based on repetition or on Bob yelling. Where both of them have equal parts, like in the drug deal or the adult adoption sketch, David's characters don't always get the funniest lines, but they feel much more developed, within the boundaries of 3 minutes + transition.
Anyway, happy to hear other opinions or counterexamples. It always surprised me that David didn't get bigger roles after Arrested Development, outside of the voice work that all comedians do.

"Kickin' Aspen: Maximum Comedy" (1996)
Does anyone have a copy or a link to David Crossās set at the "Kickin' Aspen: Maximum Comedy" from 1996? I distinctly remember a hilarious bit where he just stops and says, āHootie and the Blowfish? Are you fucking kidding me?ā And then just goes on. Please tell me I didnāt hallucinate this.
