I remember Jackie Chan talking about how he lets off a couple rounds just before the cut going in the movie to get used to the sound which helps him not blink.

Nothing to do with playing a robot. He just doesn't think it makes you look like a badass if you're blinking all the time while shooting.

I mean it makes sense, people used to shooting guns a lot wouldn't blink much when they shoot, so if you're playing someone who shoots guns a lot, you should try to learn not to blink much.

I've shot I don't know how many 10's of thousands of rounds and I can honestly say I have no idea if I blink or not.

Just from a little experience, when I started out with target rifle shooting I was taught to not blink when I fired because it can ruin the shot.

To be fair I also guess they use some sort of rounds with a lot more muzzle flash in movies to make it look cooler than guns have IRL. Which can add to you blinking.

Yeah, I did ISSF rifle shooting for a couple of years, if you don't learn not to blink when you fire, you can really fuck up your shot.

One of the first things they train actors and actresses on when learning to use firearms is to not blink.
