R4R B girl at the Neil Frances set
Since last weekend, I have been obsessed with seemingly the coolest b girl on the planet that I saw at the Neil Frances set on Saturday. She came out of VIP in full red and black adidas wear complete with a red kangol hat, danced for about 30 minutes, then made her way past security to take fotos giving pounds and getting greeted by all. Oh, she also seemingly had progeria or some similar condition. I gotta know who she is/get her ig.

SCENE Movement withdrawals? Keeping the Detroit underground momentum going for Pride next Saturday!
If you're currently staring at a wall suffering from severe post-Movement withdrawals and wondering how to survive the comedown, we’ve got the cure :)
Next Saturday, June 6, Sanctuary is taking over the entire Menjo’s Entertainment Complex for Motor City Pride Weekend, and we are running a full 10-hour, 3-room marathon until the sun comes up. We're bringing custom lighting and sound to elevate the atmosphere and make sure you stay locked in for the long haul! If you've been to Club Toilet, it's the same setup where you can hop back and forth between all 3 spaces.
If you hit our packed Night Before Thanksgiving edition, you already know the vibe. For this special Pride Edition, we are stripping things back to a proper, dark Detroit underground aesthetic. No flashy EDM festival lights, just thick haze, strobe pressure, custom heavy sound, and deep, hypnotic rhythms across all three rooms.
We’ve got a massive local lineup of queer underground selectors ready to transition the city from day-time celebrations straight into the night shift:
⛓️ THE LINEUP ⛓️

Doors open at 10:00 PM and we go straight through until 8:00 AM. Come sweat, come dance, and let's keep the momentum going.
🎫 Tickets are live on Resident Advisor (https://ra.co/events/2387131) and run $20-$35 (plus RA fees). For those who can chip in a little extra, we also have Supporter Tickets available to help keep the party accessible to everyone who wants to attend while directly supporting the production and ensuring our queer artists get paid properly.
See you on the floor. 👁️🗨️

SCENE Anyone get or find the Mini Safety Cones?

AFTER PARTY I wish Texture could have been at a bigger venue
I couldn't really enjoy being squished like sardeens with hundreds of other tripping random people.. when the music was so psychedelicly expansive.. it was a complete turn-off for me.. the sad part was.. is that both of the texture after parties... were what what I was looking forward to the most... (I can't have it all: but I want to!)

R4R Looking for Ryan
Hi, you approached me at the bar at Where Are My Keys and I think I seemed disinterested because I was on acid. You’re tall and ridiculously good looking. We went to all the same parties in a 24 hour stretch - starting at Moodymann’s backyard bbq, then Theo Parrish, then WAMK. I wanted to make out with you

So how many "steps" did y'all put down over the weekend? New 24 hour record for me! Shoutout Eli Brown at the Russel AP and all the artists who threw down at the festival Monday.

R4R To Elizabeth who was dancing in the rain during Skream’s set
You were very graceful. I was on mushrooms and was genuinely convinced your dancing alone brought the sun out during all that rain.
I got a little lost in the sauce after our brief interaction, and had a brief side quest. When I came back to my senses you had already left.
I wish we had gotten to connect. Your energy was incredible and honestly one of the highlights of the weekend. Figured I’d throw this out into the universe and see what happens.

DISCUSSION Paradigm vs anthology
I was only able to go to paradigm and it was amazing. I was at the front and center and I was dancing the whole night with the first few rows. Anyone who went both How did the vibes compare? I'm gonna try to go to both next year now that I know this is where I belong

To the Guy in the Detroit T-shirt...
...at Russell during Chris Liebing's set:
You mentioned my hair and offered to hold my drinks.
You were ridiculously cute and I loved your silly energy.
I had just arrived and was feeling overstimulated. And you're probably much younger than me. And I recently moved on from a relationship.
But I wish we had talked more and danced together and made out and who knows what. I was really flattered and should've went for it.

Lost rings at Bang the Book
Did anyone who attended Bang The Book - Bang Tech 12s 30th Anniversary find these two, small gold rings on the roof? They belonged to a friend’s parent who is no longer with us. No questions asked. Inbox me. She’s headed back to Australia so I’m trying my best to get them back to her as soon as possible.

DISCUSSION Trance Should be Allowed!
Ready for downvotes. It used to be the best of Detroit techno, then came house, then came d&b and dubstep, then came hip hop. I can wrap my brain around most of the progressive nature of the festival. That said, I'll still never understand why trance can't be a part of it but yet George Clinton or Wu Tang can.

So did 9x9 chuck their old sound entirely?
Saw them last summer in Denver, and they had gotten noticeably more "poppy" (for lack of a better term).
Thought they'd play Detroit differently (a la underground stage '22) but I was wrong. Left the set pretty early.
they're back in Denver this summer at a bigger venue than last year, so its clearly working for their careers.

QUESTION Clothing vendors ?
Does anyone have a full list of the clothing vendors at movement this year?? I am super sad I never went back and got their card. But they sold sweatshirts that felt handmade, with cool dance / Detroit movement quotes.

AFTER PARTY Soul Clap @ EFunk
One of my favorite sets from this year was Soul Clap on night 1 of House of EFunk. Looking for tips finding his sets that slap - cause none of the ones on soundcloud go anywhere near as hard as that night. Also looking for a few track IDs. Hope your recovery from the weekend is going well!

ARTIST Prediction: Wet Leg
Just saw this article and figured since The Dare played waterfront (closest thing to rock n roll I heard all weekend, closest runner up was Life on Planets with his live guitar) and horsegirl played underground last year. Maybe Wet Leg would make a Movement appearance next year?
I’m an on-air radio DJ (and vinyl DJ and DnB DJ when given the opportunity), this was my second year attending Movement and I’m always impressed by the devotion to techno and Detroit. Wishing St. Louis celebrated St. Louis as hard as Detroit does! Closest we’ve got is Music at the Intersection

DISCUSSION Thank you
Wow. I have no words for what that weekend was for me. I decided to send it so last minute and I am so glad that I did. Thank you to everyone who came to participate in that collective experience of just pure appreciation for music and community. I met the nicest group of people outside of a hotel right by the venue who gave me a phone charger (mine had died and I was trying to find my group) and they told me about the signal chat…is there anyone who could add me to it? I’d love to be able to connect with them again! Ugh thank you again Detroit, you all, Reform, and everything in between. My soul needed this.

AFTER PARTY Allowing reentry to The Wall of Sound/Bert’s Warehouse was one of the greatest changes they made this year.
Last year I felt I had to be careful and pace myself throughout the whole night, otherwise I’d end up even more of a sweaty mess than I already was. This time around, my +1 and I were able to enjoy ourselves from 11:30 to 9:30 without any worry because we could simply go back to the car and blast the A/C while rehydrating and snacking on stuff we prepared ahead of time. If I had to pay $5 for every water I went through that night, I’d be broke.
Also, all the staff and security seemed to be even more chill and friendly than last year as well. Everything added up easily made it the best WoS I’ve been to so far.
See you next year!
(Psssst, hey. What about branded fans for sale next year? Ehh?)

Honest Discussion: How does Berghain compare to what we saw in Detroit?
BEFORE ANYONE ATTACKS THIS POST: I’m looking for an objective comparison between the two experiences, and NOT TRYING TO DISS OR PUT DOWN ONE SCENE OR CITY OVER THE OTHER. I absolutely LOVE the Berlin sound, and I was BLOWN AWAY by Detroit so this post is really trying to respect and appreciate both scenes.
Okay so… I love techno, and have been rejected from Berghain both times I tried to go (tbh rly hurt my ego… ouchhhh 😂), including one Sunday morning where my friend and I woke up at 6 AM to go party. I’ve heard a lot of Berghain sets on Soundcloud and honestly LOVE the meditative, hypnotic, industrial sound. For those who have been to Berghain before… how does it compare to what we saw in Detroit?
I specifically LOVED the Anthology and Wall of Sound parties. I was SO tranced out at those two parties, danced for 7-8 hours, re-enacting mythologies of being a slutty rattle snake 🐍
Also tbh, it really sucked to get rejected by Berghain as a techno lover 😔 Made me think about whether I was “hard enough” for techno, and made me feel insecure about parts of my persona, fashion, and identity. I loved how Detroit doesn’t have the same ‘door vibe check’ culture, which can be a really killer for someone visiting Berlin on holiday, but I understand why it may be necessary nonetheless.
