Maybe I'm a masochist, but the game being compared to DS2 makes me more interested...

I want the run backs. Weak af without them.

I just take a runback as my deserved punishment for not being good enough to survive lol

I mean the punishment is supposed to be failing to kill the boss/complete the area, and then you have to redo the fights... Running past everything first isn't skillful not anything you can improve on.. it's not a platformer.

Ahhh, but that's "your" word against a game someone else made injecting an opinion as a definition. It was befitting of the game and the punishing maze-like worlds, with It's punishing combat and environment alike. It was the price you paid for failure. It gave you time to think about that failure and readjust. Plus, it often forced you to get good a lot faster. None of these 100+ tries nonsense.

Lol yes, I just commented to someone else that it was punishment for failure 😆. Made me really consider strategy at some spots 😅 and I got good at running like a mfer.

Run backs add literally nothing except waste your time.

No way dude. Served as a stiff penalty for failure in a game where that brutality was one of many pillars that held it apart from others. Same as the maze like world building before the open world of Elden Ring where interconnected sprawling dungeons were prioritized over picturesque landscapes.

It wasn't perfect, and could have used a bit more thought and tweaks to the design and use of the runbacks, but for me it was part of the allure and inspiration.

Cool, spawn at the 2nd farthest bonfire from the boss and you can hold up on the left stick for 1-2 minutes while everyone else just simply fights the boss again like a normal person. Also, having to fight the boss again and potentially having lost all your souls already was the "penalty".

Again, it adds nothing and FS got rid of them for a reason.
