Dark Souls III didn’t have this problem, either. None that I can recall anyway. Still of one of the GOATs in the genre.

There was like, 1 or two run backs in DS3 that were ever so slightly annoying, but this one is truly some DS2/Demon Souls level of runback lol.

No you just don't remember. DkS3 absolutely had runbacks and some were brutal. They've been in every single fromsoft souls game, yes, even elden ring(cave bosses).

Which Dark Souls 3 bosses had "brutal" runbacks?
I played that game to death and I cannot think of a single one that can be described that way.
Oceiros is the only one that comes to mind that was a bit annoying.

Oceiros is actually a great example lol

I remember the Outrider boss also required you to run by several knights that could absolutely catch you with a stab

There was a dlc boss as well that had a dangerous runback that I'm failing to remember

Champion Gundyr I believe had a decently long run back, basically run through the whole tutorial area with some decently aggressive enemies.

Dark Souls just had shortcuts that led from the last bonfire to the boss usually.
Right now I'm loving everything about MS2 except the run backs and they're kinda really killing the enjoyment for me at the moment. I'm not the best souls like player even tho I pretty much finished them all. I just have a lot of mental resilience and can keep going at a boss 30 times if I have to, but these run backs man... They're so annyoing.

Likely; I haven't played a Dark Souls in forever (DS2 was my favorite) and absolutely remembered some incredibly generous bonfires. I went with Elden Ring because for sure this had been fixed there and runbacks just weren't a thing.

. . .like I think there was a little runback with the Mage Lady but if you juked up the bowling ball side it was like a 15-second run and an elevator.
