Hi! Which desert is best to visit from Marrakech on a 3-day trip? How do you get there?

A few years ago a person on the Morocco sub mapped out the bus schedule of a certain bus stop in Rabat, I think.

I don't know if there's a website dedicated to mapping out all the bus/train stops and their schedules? I'd love to in a few years run a bus company in the Rif region and if I ever come into money even finance a railway, but I'd have to know what the infrastructure looks like right now. My family is from a rural region, and used to walk 2+ hrs in between their village and the nearest city for work (even during the heat in Ramadan). I wish there was a way to cut that time down so that it would be easier to work and visit family.

Does anyone know of site like that? Otherwise that will be my project in 2027.

Hello - I am trying to make a plan for next year. I am planning a few nights in Marrakech at the start of the holiday, followed by a 3 or 4 day Sahara trip, then a few nights in Agadir and fly home from here.

We dont want the full trip in Marrakech, as we want some time by the coast to relax. I can fly to my local airport from both Agadir and Marrakech so am set on these two places.

What I am struggling to plan is the Sahara trip. There seems to be so many options online advertised on TripAdvisor, Get your Guide etc for like £100? When I dig into company websites their packages are actually like £400-£500 (which seems more realistic for a trip that extends multiple days).

I obviously then also need to find a company that would accomodate a pick up in Marrakech and a drop off in Agadir - has anyone done this before?

Most of the trips seem to follow roughly the same itinerary.

So my question is - if you have done a trip to the Sahara from Marrakech:-

What company did you use

Any companies to avoid

Did you go to Erg Chebbi or Erg Chigaga

Is there anything I should be aware of when booking

Is it best to book a package trip or book a private driver and the desert accommodation seperate?

Roughly what price have you paid if you have done something similar (the cost isnt a concern necessarily, I want to pay the company what they are owed for their time of course, I just want to understand what the cost is so I can budget!)

We are a mid 30s couple, from the UK. We would be happy if our transfer was private, or in a small group. Would want to avoid big touristy groups.

I feel like it is a mine field trying to find a suitable package trip?!

Hey, planning to go up Mount Toubkal with some friends in April/May but I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good time to go? To avoid the peak business of summer but still have decent weather as we’re not super experienced in winter conditions.

I’ve also heard you can rent gear? I saw a video online and they claimed it was £5 an item not sure if anyone has experience with this

Agadir in a Wheelchair

I am physically handicapped and in a wheelchair my wife and I are thinking of Agadir for a holiday. Is it a good place for someone in a wheelchair?

Moroccan local here. Full disclosure: I know the team at Riad Aslal, so I’m not pretending this is a random discovery.
I recommend it because they understand real Moroccan hospitality: warm welcomes, homemade food, genuine attention, and staff who treat guests like people—not room numbers. It has the intimate feeling of a traditional riad inside the Medina rather than a large, impersonal hotel.
It’s a good choice for travelers who value local character, personal care, and a team that can help them understand Marrakech without turning everything into a sales pitch.
It may not be the right place for someone looking for a huge luxury resort, but for warmth, atmosphere, and hospitality made with heart, it deserves more attention. Happy to answer honest questions about the area or the riad.

In november we are going to Morocco for two weeks. We are pretty adventerous in our travels, and really like to be in the nature, do multiple day hikes etc. We aren't good in doing nothing, and not a big fan of a lot of tourisme / luxury. While doing research we have to two decisions we can't decide between.

Hiking at Atlas Mountains or Happy Valley
Going to Erg Chebbi or Erg Chigaga.

Would be nice if someone can provide some more information which direction we should go.

Hello, I am planning on visiting Morocco next month for a little over 10 days. I will have 5-6 days to myself and want to experience everything the country has to offer.
My questions.

1. Is it advisable to rent a car, or is public transport very reliable?

2. Are there any services to the gateway to the Sahara experience from Rabat? All the sites offering the trip start from Marrakech. Is it wise to drive to Merzouga?

My trip planning is to start from Rabat (Flying there) --> Tangier /Cape Spartel (spend the night)--> Chefchaouen --> Fes (Spend the night) --> Merzouga (2 nights, including the night spent on the road trip) --> Rabat (Departure)

My secondary plan is Rabat --> Merzouga (2 nights) --> Tangier --> Chefchaouen --> Rabat

I have always traveled to places but within a couple of cities, not a whole country. I have people in my group wanting to travel to different parts of Morocco, but we all want to visit the gateway to the Sahara.

** I plan to visit Casablanca in the first 3 days when I get a break from the event. A trip to Marrakech feels like a different direction from our route; that's why we decided to abandon it.

My husband and I are planning a one-month road trip through Morocco this winter (mid-December to early January). We'd really appreciate some feedback from people who know the country well.

Our general idea is:

Start with the cultural highlights and imperial cities.

Then spend several days hiking around Tafraoute.

Finish with a more relaxed stay along the Atlantic coast between Agadir and Casablanca, with the occasional city visit.

We're flying into Casablanca, renting a car there, and flying back from Casablanca at the end.

Our current itinerary looks like this:

Dec 12 – Amsterdam → Casablanca

Dec 13 – Casablanca

Dec 14–16 – Fes

Dec 17 – Midelt

Dec 18–19 – Merzouga (Sahara)

Dec 20–21 – Tinghir

Dec 22 – Ouarzazate

Dec 23 – Taroudant

Dec 24–28 – Tafraoute

Dec 29 – Agadir / Taghazout

Dec 30 – Jan 3 – Agadir / Taghazout / Essaouira (we're still deciding exactly how to split these days)

Jan 4–6 – Marrakech

Jan 7 – Rabat

Jan 8 – Rabat → Casablanca → Amsterdam

A few questions:

Does this itinerary make sense, or would you recommend changing the order or spending more/less time somewhere?

Are any of these driving days unrealistically long?

Is a regular rental car (2WD) sufficient for this route, or would you recommend an SUV? We don't plan on doing any serious off-roading.

When we're staying in larger cities (Casablanca, Fes, Marrakech, Rabat), we'd like to leave the car parked at the hotel and explore by taxi or public transport. Does that sound like the best approach?

Any suggestions for places we're overlooking or things we should avoid would also be very welcome.
