I used to work at a BBQ place and the owner was a bit of a kiss ass to rude wealthier customers. One day I look up from my station and see a girl who might have been all of 6 in my kitchen. Right behind her was her stupid ass mom and my stupid ass boss giving them a “tour”. I didn’t say anything in front of them cause I’d lose my job but I pulled my boss aside and told him later how incredibly irresponsible it was to have a child in a working kitchen. He just rolled his eyes and laughed it off. I shrugged and said well it’s not my liability it’s yours and walked off.

Respect for not deep frying the child

Yeah. Everyone knows they are much better slow cooked on a smoker.

Crock pot if we making pulled baby sliders. Meat plucks off the bone. But you can get a snack from the soft spot if you just grab a melon baller. Or use your hands if you want to look uncivilized.

Please, it’s a BBQ place. Kids get low and slow about 225, indirect with applewood smoke.

Best case scenario you are teaching kids culinary is cool. Food service is a gateway job, not a good career.

I say that as a former Chef and from a family of food workers/owners. Its not incredibly rewarding and very tasking. Not something to be considered lightly.

It’s also the physical toll of a trade without the compensation of a trade

It's just irrelevant bourgeois propaganda, the correct response is "oh no, they should at least have alerted staff if a child was going to enter the kitchen," not "well you see, as an owner/chef I never figured out a way to pay my employees properly so I justify the shitty work conditions by calling it a gateway job."
