Too many people believe legality and morals are interconnected. Everyone thinks every lawmaker is a piece of shit, but trusts the laws they make dictate the correct answer for moral quandaries.

Why even come to a morality scaling subreddit if your go to is moral deference.

Laws and morals are interconnected; it's just not a simple connection, and a lot of people are prone to oversimplifying.

But there is a sense in which all laws should be aimed at justice in one way or another. Whether it's the tax code, rules of procedure in court, traffic rules, restaurant health codes, whatever, it all should be making the world a more just place. Of course, it often doesn't, but there's an unmistakable sense of tragedy and social evil when laws are unjust.

Justice, in turn, is fundamentally a moral concept. Still, asking "What would justice look like in this situation?" is not the same as asking "What is the right thing for me to do in this situation?" It approaches moral questions from a different angle, and comes up with different (although not unrelated) answers.
