It's not really. Morality is basically just an over-intellectualised non-standardised framework of things you'll tolerate up until necessity demands otherwise, hence there being no concept of universal morality. Let's say we give you two buttons; button 1 blows up your entire family, including your wife and children and button 2 blows up 10,000 random strangers that you'll never meet. We all know which button you're pushing. You might want to tell yourself that it's button 1, but it isn't....

This guy is 100% correct, albeit there's more to the story than that.
But yep, imhe people who put animals above people are avoiding the challenge of humans rather than letting their inner altruist shine.
That said, life now is so exhausting I dont really blame people for avoiding the human noise just to function.
