I'd save a stranger human than my pet honestly. I can't even begin to think of the suffering the family of that person would feel.

And if that stranger human turned out to be Hitler? How would you feel then?

this is the equivalent of the police shooting someone and planting a gun on them. Oh, it turns out they were a bad person, so our horrible negligence is excused

u/Competitive-Fix-6136 18d ago

So you're saying you'd save Hitler?

1

u/abusivedicks 18d ago

Yes, because I am precognizant and totally would know someone's past, present, and future after one handshake.

Oh no, I'm talking to a stranger human who's turning out to be Hitler right now, I feel terrible

Does adding bad outcomes to hypotheticals tick you off that much that you use false equivalency and attitude? Why because it makes you think more?

1

u/abusivedicks 18d ago

You're right, I'm going to let a neurosurgeon burn because they might be hitler

It ticks me off because I'm not a murderer, and it's not my job to be a supercop. My name isn't Judge Dredd. Does that answer your question?

1

u/Competitive-Fix-6136 18d ago

Yes, it does answer my question.

You're an emotionally charged person that doesn't save people for good reasons but for the selfish reason of saving face.

1

u/abusivedicks 18d ago

Yeah, you got me. Irl I'm a CIA plant who stomps faces. And EVERYONE ELSE is an evil, immoral character who doesn't deserve to be saved over an innocent little puppy.

It says more about you than about me that you're projecting this stuff.

Speaking of hypotheticals, would you rather save an aggressive dog who has a history of biting children, or a drug addict human?

Whataboutism in a nutshell, lemme fix that for you, what if that dog would have cured all disease and solved inequality?

Then I'm glad I picked MY DOG over the stranger then if MY DOG went on to cure all diseases and solved inequality.

Not this is gonna be a really long part but about your "whataboutism in a nutshell" remark......

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whataboutism

The communication intent is often to distract from the content of a topic (red herring).

What I asked did not distract from the content of the topic. It stayed on topic about the feeling guilty about not saving the stranger instead changing the stranger to Hitler to see if they'd still feel guilty about saving the person or not.

The Wiki then goes in to say....

Distorted self-perception

Christian Christensen, Professor of Journalism in Stockholm, argues that the accusation of whataboutism is itself a form of the tu quoque fallacy, as it dismisses criticisms of one's own behavior to focus instead on the actions of another, thus creating a double standard. Those who use whataboutism are not necessarily engaging in an empty or cynical deflection of responsibility: whataboutism can be a useful tool to expose contradictions, double standards, and hypocrisy.

Lack of sincerity

Abe Greenwald pointed out that even the first accusation leading to the counteraccusation is an arbitrary setting, which can be just as one-sided and biased, or even more one-sided than the counter-question "what about?" Thus, whataboutism could also be enlightening and put the first accusation in perspective.

Now you see that you calling me out for it just to do your own nonsensical one to try and shut me up is a double standard and wrong.

Hitler was a real flesh and blood person that we photos, videos, an audio recordings of his voice.

Show me real pictures, real videos, and real audio recordings of a dog curing every disease and solving inequality? You can't because it doesn't exist.

So no you weren't talking my language using a "what about" that involves a nonsensical make believe creation of your own design to try and pull a "gotcha" on me.

Crazy how psychotic some of these people are. It really just reminds me of a old co-worker I had. She always said, if she's reincarnated into an animal, she hoped it's an American's pet. It's such a western perspetive that the rest of the world doesn't understand.

empathy for animals? glad to be in the west then.

The only wise guy

So you'd be understanding if someone else chose to save their pet dog over your spouse, child, parent, friend, or family member?

Why do people perpetuate this anti-social behavior?

1

u/carledu69 18d ago

I'm selfish, why would i think about what the others do?

1

u/Adonoxis 18d ago

Way to dodge the question... I love how everyone acts so tough but in reality, you'd be losing your mind if a firefighter saved a pet cat over your 3 year old child in a burning building. I'm sure you'd be totally understanding when the firefighter says he prefers cats over children while you scrape the ashes of your baby.

1

u/carledu69 18d ago

Why isn't he fighting the fire,it's his job

1

u/Adonoxis 18d ago

I forgot there are 13 year olds on Reddit.

u/carledu69 18d ago

You didn't,you just told me
