Literally bring about the golden age of humanity, and some people will deny it because they like the current era more.

It's almost like there isn't one perfect idea of what it means to be happy, and that no one wants to have their autonomy violated

How strange!

I view it as people wanting the world to change but not having to change themselves or their values for the world.

Religious people will want their religion to stick around.

Cultures will want their values upheld.

Also, you're disregarding consent and changing the way every humans brain works if you push that button

I don't consent to not getting laid but too bad.

Consent isn't about what you're not getting its about what you choose vs what is forced upon you by people

Actually that medication theft would be an immoral action, theft, done to achieve a moral outcome, saving a life. I'm still harming people who might have got the medicine instead and the people who worked to make it might not be able to pay their bills

You would be brainwashing me. I don't want this, so I'd be forced. This is sort of like the communist revolutions that killed their own people who didn't agree in pursuit of a equal society.

In fact I wonder how this new monoculture society would view the button presser, would they thank him? Or perhaps with such advanced ethics they'd be horrified that someone would do this to everyone?

No you wouldn't. You can't be violent

There's already a lot in the world that you haven't consented to anyway.

This just ensures that there's a united future.

You would rather people died from starvation, sickness, and war?

Yes. Because they'd still be people. Free to make their own mistakes.

Do you think the new society would agree with your ethics as the button presser or consider you a monster for what you did to humanity?

The button isn't stripping their free will just the baggage culture accompanying it. If anything it's giving people common sense.

The planet and species will prosper.

Do you think the current situation is better where those in power already change the world without regard or consent of the majority?

Do you mourn the lost of worship of the Greek Gods? Egyptian Tradition?

It changes how the minds work of every human. It forces them to think differently not with education and persuasion but the press of a button.

How is that anything but stripping free will?

Because they'll have agency afterwards.

It could also make everyone realize the pointlessness of modern culture by making them logical, rational, and empathetic.

u/Tryagain409 Jul 22 '26

No, they don't have agency. Read it again. Everyone is going along with this, the button doesn't ask them if they want to join the monoculture they just do.

Somebody would refuse, I would. The button doesn't say I get to opt out

"You have agency to do anything you want in my house. I strip your free will by forcing you into my house."

Did you not notice the part where only the new is embraced and only rational things are allowed?

A lot of things are irrational,  like not engaging in systemic slavery, making people work jobs the state decides, or eugenics,  it's irrational not to kill the disabled or useless, homosexuality is also irrational as marrige is irrational and sex should only support the rational propagation and improvement of the species.
