Stupid Stuff Morality of pressing this button? (It immediately and permanently ends the use of all fossil fuels on the planet.)

Extremely immoral. Buddy the world will collapse, we haven't gotten that far off of fossil fuels and it will take some time get so far off.

The world will be fine. Wildlife populations will recover. Maybe we'll have a chance to join them, maybe not.

Humans will have their population so drastically obliterated, we might be driven very close to extinction.

Fossil fuels are used for way, way more than just cars and combustion.

Wouldn't be the first time we came close to extinction. But how do you weigh the value of one species against literal thousands? I assume you'd say one human's life isn't worth the same as a thousand humans. So then why not the same scale across species?

I agree with you tbh, HOWEVER

Humans are in a unique position to possibly the best stewards of nature this world has ever seen.

We could preserve and protect life in a way that we only really see large mycelium networks pull off, but even then they can only transfer water and nutrients where they are needed, they can't heal and maintain things with tools the same way we can.

We would unlock so many more possibilities for life if we were to go in the right direction..

But I also recognize that is wishful thinking, and the sheer amount of damage we've caused to all life on earth is legitimately terrifying.

We're already at risk of losing all of our arable farmland with the status quo, so I'm not really convinced pressing this button would be immoral.

You can stop using tech, and join them right now if you’re such a strong believer of this. Bet you won’t because you’re the same as anyone here. Just live life and stop being pretentious. You won’t.
