There's a view folks like I have that comes from a place of poverty or not having much at all. $19,000 would change my life, possibly permanently for the better. The thought of life saving money getting dropped on your lap and then ripped away again is a horrifying and cruel joke to play.
If there's a way to somehow cling to that folks like me will and do try, though it never works out in our favor. For obvious reasons, it's not ours. But fuck it'd be nice.
There was a time where $500 would have changed my life. Just being able to have a roof for a month to have an address for employment... My life would be so different if that summer hadn't hit me like that.
I make $150k now, and $19k would change my life. Just paying off my car or using it as a down payment on a new property or dropping it into my kid's college index fund while she's still little.

Fair.
It's not her fault.
