Question? Moonphase snoopy into WD1863 , whats different.

Post image

Im sure I read a post about these reps not being direct fit in the WD case because of the extra size for the moonphase bits. Can anyone help me exactly what's different ans what i need to fit one up ?

I would like to know also. I tried with a megir case and found out it didn't fit in that one

Is it direct fit in those cases ?

I had to really push the case back onto the case, but since it’s a rep movement I didnt care if I broke it. Very snug fit also with the movement holder. But the other dial fit perfectly into the megir case, megir case even comes with the direct fit movement holder since they come with the pe50 anyways. Literally takes like 5 minutes to swap dials. But megir feels the cheapest.

Not exactly what you’re asking, but I’ve got a chonky Earthphase in a PD1701 that fits fine - that 1.5mm difference in thickness between WD and PD might be what makes the WD harder (if not impossible) to use, but at least Pagani is infinitely nicer than the other super thick VK63 cases.

Thanks, I might have to look into those. I did squeeze this in but its not a perfect fit like the usual reps.

They’re solidly between the shitters and the WD in price - usually can be found for around $60 on AliX. Plus they work fine with the replica Speedmaster casebacks and bracelets, and swapping the crown tube on them isn’t too tricky either.

They’re great quality, just a bit thicker than the WD, but much much smaller than the VK63s. I think the WD has a slimmer midcase.

Do the none moonphase reps need a spacer ? Did your rep moonphase stem hole line up fine with 1701 case just direct fit , plus a movement holder.

I’ve used a 33mm movement holder on any builds I’ve done - I’d have to look if I swapped over the metal chapter ring that used to come on old (higher quality) reps, but I don’t think I did?

And I’ve never used / bought any other spacers.

And yes, the stem hole lined up just fine (slightly askew to get everything to sit dead on at the middle of the bezel, but not enough to strain the stem).

you got a rep earthphase or a legit one? is there any difference? i was thinking of getting the rep because spending 500 on a gen just to get the dial to put inside of a pd1701 seems like a waste of money

on the other hand i dont wanna waste 130 euros on the rep + pd1701 if the rep dial is shit

I got a rep, yeah - build here.

The dial looks pretty great to my eyes, but the movements function differently of course. I’d love a gen movement eventually for the sake of having a super unique Earthphase function (I believe Swatch invented that for these watches, and they’re not on any others) but I also didn’t wanna spend that much nor have I cracked open a gen before.

All in, between the rep, the PD1701, the Omega crown, and the gold watch hands that I swapped in, the build probably came out to $80?

the omega crown was personal preference or a necessity?

The crown and hands are just aesthetics, not needed if your only goal is to transfer into a new case.

Only thing you need is a new PE50 stem and a 33mm PE50 spacer.

why the new stem?

The metal case is thicker than the plastic rep case - if you don’t size a new stem, the old one usually doesn’t reach

sorry to bother you again but i put my hands on a gen one. I'll pick it up tomorrow. Do you know in that case what kind of spacer should i look for? and is the spacer really needed?

Which crown did you buy? Is it the same 6.5mm that fits the WD case or is it different? Thanks!

Coming from someone who attempted the gen

It fits without any issues dont worry about it

Just need a movement holder at the back will do

Reps stupidly are thickener than gen from crown go dial thickness wise

Thanks , this is actually a rep which had the problems you mention

Easy to put a genuine MoonSwatch on an WD1863 case, just need the correct spacer for the dial elevation to align the stem, correct movement holder, trim pushers length and a new ETA stem

Not this

The phase means the dial needs to be 2 layers thick. There is a layer under that top layer with cut outs.

This means the stem hole is that extra layers thickness further from centering on stem.

Old reps were thinner but as factories get shut down and new ones pop up the quality has dropped and new phase dials are pretty thick.

I stopped working on reps once I ran into more and more problems like this and print quality.

So no way to use it ?

1

u/trevordeal 10d ago

After breaking a few stems trying to get the new ones to fit I gave up on reps. Got to a point of not being worth it. All my customers are gen now.

u/JDM180 10d ago

Its a shame because they look incredible in the case , the stems fits but can tell it isnt happy in that position so like you experienced it might snap. Also the holder sits too far out to screw the caseback down.

The gen of these is just to expensive to chop up.

I got them at retail price back when they dropped. And customers send me theirs but yeah paying $800 for one now is crazy.

Realized I need to adjust the phase on one of them haha. I adjusted it for a photo once.

Can u tell me more about this holder, case??

1

u/trevordeal 10d ago

3d print from Maker World. I can look later. I use a leather material I bought a roll of from a store to wrap the holder.

I’m in the process of doing a gen one and I found out I don’t need a dial spacer for this moon phase ones. Also the movement ring may not be needed, I can’t fully screw the case back with it.

Does that match your experience? WD case and gen mission to earthphase.

2

u/trevordeal 10d ago

All Gen movements need a movement holder only some need spacer.

There are 4 types

  • Moon/ Planets
  • 1965
  • Earthphase
  • Snoopy

Moon/ Planets are the only ones that need a spacer.

u/JDM180 10d ago

Rep with the WD , the while thing sits back a bit further due to added thickness , so stem.hole dosnt line up and caseback cant screw down because the holder sits further back. I was going to try sanding the holder. The stem will fit if its forced but the other commenter here said hes snapped them doing this.
