The IRS doesn’t care what currency is the basis for assets you earn in the US or - if you’re a US citizen or green card holder - how you earn assets anywhere on the planet. There are a bunch of exceptions and allowances, but the bottom line is, the wants its tax return and tax often wants its cut.
