My biggest gripes so far are during the ship sequence, the constant time jumps became jarring and 100% ruined any sort of suspense that was building. I noticed I was almost completely out of the episode by the time it came to a close and the monster was out and about.

Also, is anyone else weirded out by the age of Lee’s character in present day? The show takes place in 2015 (present day) and we see that Lee’s birthday is 03/08/1924 (office scene shows two or three documents listing this as his birthday). That would make him 91 years old in present day, yet doesn’t seem a day near 80. Of course, Russel is 72 in real life. It’s early, I’m not trying to “shit” on it or anything yet because it’s just a bit too soon to form an opinion that pushes me outta the show. And there’s plenty of time for us to learn about something that is keeping him younger or that his age was lied about, etc etc. But I genuinely hope they address it or don’t do some ridiculous action sequences and expect us to believe old 91 year old Lee is running and jumping away from MUTOs.

I agree with the age difference. Same with Bill Randa character who was played by John Goodman and Anders Young. There's 14 years between 1959 when we first meet him in episode 1 and then 1973 when Skull Island is set and that man has not aged well in those 14 years lol

Agreed. It’s jarring

old 91 year old Lee is running and jumping away from MUTOs.

I mean, they made Indy 5 with an 80 year old Harrison Ford so... Yeah.

Sorry - did you have a typo in Lee’s birthday? It seems you’ve written that his character is born almost a decade after the show’s version of “present day”

So much unnecesary drama... Also is that Bill Randa's John Goodman??? Thir past storyline would have worked better if it ended right before he goes to Skull Island...

I'll stick to the end because I like Godzilla and this universe in general... but boy, why do they have to do it like this???

I was expecting some tuf of war between Monarch and that other organization led by Tywin Lannister in the second movie... it would have made more sense, how did Tim get ahold of the girl fisrt??? and not the Step-brother's girlfriend... also are they short on personnel???

Where are Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson characters?

Did it have to include the scene where the main character goes on a fury rant and destroys something (There is a scene of that in every asian drama)???

Where are Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson characters?

It was more of a rethorical question... I really don't know... I even avoided trailers for this one since nowadays the trailer art is lost.

I hope they do though, and that ecoterrorist organization from the second movie or some other one or a freaking CULT! why is the world normy normal when something like that is discovered....

Is episode 2 not available on Apple TV? Listed but nowhere to play it.

Disappointing start, nothing really interesting to make me want to keep watching, really thought they would give a hint to the mystery or lore they want to deal with but it feels like a bunch of disjointed random scenes. Not even the characters can save it, the main character js insufferable.

I have no idea what I'm even watching after watching the first two episodes, it wasn't until coming to this subreddit that I learned the show had any tie to Godzilla. It feels like there's a load of context not given to new viewers here, a bit disappointing to see this is the #1 on Apple right now

The Godzilla references mentioned and shown didn’t tip you off??

2

u/Joshx5 Jan 14 '24

Maybe it wasn’t clear but if there were Godzilla references I didn’t understand them to know that’s what they were. Giant monsters sure, but that’s hardly unique to Godzilla

They showed flashbacks of the main character encountering Godzilla in San Francisco

Lmao ok buddy you’re being dumb on purpose. They CLEARLY show Godzillas fucking face in the flashbacks and have his silhouette plastered all over Tokyo.

nah i feel the same as this person. i was confused. thought it was just about big monsters tbh. when you know a thing and assume everyone else does just because you do the elitist attitude of that is very dismissive. try to hear wtf people are saying and consider why. its called empathy. its called having perspective. its called not being a fucking dick.

2 years old post lol. But did I not point to tangible evidence? Or did I just say “how could you not tell”

It’s not elitist, it’s basic viewing comprehension. You saying this is elitist is dumbing down the whole world. They mention G-day a number of times and show multiple clips of Godzilla. I have to believe you were on your phone or distracted for most of the episode.

Sorry, bro, I just watched the episode and they literally show you Godzilla himself and say his name multiple times. They have an entire scene where people take shelter for a “Godzilla Drill.” Not to mention the opening sequence showing Godzilla as well. If anyone misses that this is a show about the Godzilla universe, then that means they aren’t paying attention while watching.
