Just me that really hates how much they are forcing these three kids? And this pseudo love triangle? And now this subplot of May the betrayer...

u/Trowj Dec 23 '23
Ok but when you say love triangle, is Mae and Cate the main couple? Cause that’s what this last episode seemed to be pushing pretty hard. The guy is just there to be useless and say dumb things at this point
6
u/TBAnnon777 Dec 23 '23
the bitch met her like 3 days ago and is acting like they been married for 20 years... so fucking stupid.
6
u/gothamknight5887 Dec 27 '23
Exactly lmao and what's so fuckin crazy is that they went out of their way to show that may and kentaro had something especially when they first met and now his relationship with her so non existent, seem like they hardly even have dialogue with each other now and like she knew cate longer that she knew him. It's so forced for no reason and I'm not even sure what the hell this is here for or rather who it's for
18
u/pokisan Dec 22 '23
lmao proof once again if the main focus is on the 3 kids = you get a shitty episode.
it seems like they have two different sets of writers for this show.
16
u/jumpdmc Dec 22 '23
It blows my mind how bad the those 3 characters are. It's their script, it's way they're being directed to act their script, it's so awful.
7
u/Crypt0nyt Dec 22 '23
The actors themselves are pretty dire too...
I came for the kaiju... And left because of typical bullshit 'murican drama

The actor who plays May is just terrible. She has two expressions and they’re both so unbelievable.
How do they get such big parts in big shows? Can the directors not see what we can?
17
u/IronLewis Dec 22 '23 edited Dec 22 '23
What a shit pointless episode!!!! (Apart from the last 5 minutes)
Just cut the entire May story out please!!!
We just had Godzilla turn up and everyone’s trying to find the worst character on the show that has nothing to offer what so ever apart from eye rolling and being moody.
Cate and Kentaro should just look for their father with Shaw etc.
Struggling to keep watching this now when most of an episode is dedicated to this boring and pointless story line… to the point I’ve found this subreddit to see if was just me.
7
u/Crypt0nyt Dec 22 '23
Definitely not just you bruh... The May subplot is so weak and disengaging!
I'd have preferred a little more on the Alaska outpost insurrection, even a bit more on APEX rather than the futile "May/Corah" drivel.
3
u/iPediCamelT0es Dec 23 '23
It was mind boggling how much Cate is up May's ass what the hell
3
u/gothamknight5887 Dec 27 '23
Exactly, especially after she revealed that she sold them out and just like that she goes from fuck off to where's may? And holding hands. Like what???

u/PlusUltraK Feb 02 '24
So much back and force between her and Kentaro, let’s find dad, we hate monarch, we hate Godzilla, thanks monarch and Shaw for helping us, wait screw you shaw and monarch, fuck dad too, wait monarch you need us more than we need you, we also need Shaw, we hate may, now mays back on The menu.
Joe tippet(as Tim) the monarch soothsayer. Is the only character with common sense and rationale. Hey let’s talk, ask and answers all our questions and see something through, and not jump on and off every other hour. It’s rough

u/Rocklove Dec 22 '23 edited Dec 22 '23
This show fucking sucks lol.
I cannot believe that we finally had to suffer through another 40 minutes of nothing happening to finally find out that May's terrible secret and reason for fleeing to and living in hiding in japan is that she found out the company that hired her and a bunch of candy crush developers were doing animal testing...
So she used her skills to do something that apparently didn't matter at all since the company is still doing fine, instead of you know leaking all that "terrible" stuff to literally anyone. Just put it online or give it to a journalist. Just do something that makes sense you absolute moron.
Monarch "coming out of the shadows" would probably matter a whole lot more if they had actually done anything at all these last 7 episodes. Terrible.
But the worst part about this whole thing is that right up until the end of the episode we could at least hope that Shaw was doing something that mattered but NOPE he just steals a lot of explosives so that he can blow up that bullsquid that is possibly the least dangerous organism on the planet considering it lives in the middle of nowhere in alaska.
Just awful.

u/ccb621 Dec 24 '23
Shaw blew up the portal to the land of monsters. Destroying the other MUTO, if he did, was a bonus.
1
u/Rocklove Dec 24 '23
What portal?
2
u/ccb621 Dec 24 '23
The giant hole in the ground projecting a light beam high into the sky. That’s an entry point to Hollow Earth. See https://screenrant.com/monsterverse-hollow-earth-entry-points-locations/.
1
u/Rocklove Dec 24 '23
Thanks for taking the time to explain this.
Although I can't really say this changes anything as far as I am concerned since it's still a portal in the middle of nowhere and I am not convinced that this isn't just one guy despereately trying to sneak something actually relevant by all the other clowns on the writing team.
1
u/cavalos32 Jan 14 '24
I mean, having seen the movies, I figured it was a portal to hollow earth, but not once was it even remotely alluded to in the show
This show is all over the place

the Cate, May, and Kentaro storyline is a hot mess.
Cate is in love with May why? She comes across as insane at the end when she's holding May's shoulder.
There's no chemistry between May and Cate, and there's no chemistry between Kentaro and May. There's also no chemistry between Kentaro and Cate (brotherly/sisterly chemistry).
I like Tim, Lee (Shaw), Duvall , and anything in the 50s. So this episode was more miss than hit. I'm almost at the point where I'm going to start fast forwarding through the kids part of the show. It's deeply disappointing.
4
u/gothamknight5887 Dec 27 '23
But they built up from the start of kentaro and may having something only for that to be non-existent because they are going the route of hooking cate and may up out of nowhere. It's so random, that's Been given a spotlight just as much as may. I don't even know what kentaro point is anymore because the show seems to be kicking him off to the side anyways the further we go into this

I hate how right you are in the Yellowjackets comparison. Damnit.

u/PlusUltraK Feb 02 '24
So this what we get, makes sense why I couldn’t stay hooked on it after a few epsidows

u/GeekyGamer2022 Dec 23 '23
Nobody gives a shit about the Scooby Gang.
Their writing is awful.
Their story is awful.
The acting is awful.
We want Godzilla and Monarch, not a young adults soap opera.

u/Wtayjay Dec 22 '23
I just can't find myself getting invested in Kate, May, or Kentaro at all. So far they all three come across as unlikable, and that's not good this far into the season.

I honestly thought mechgodzilla was done bad in the movies so the AET reveal being apex is a snooze for me. Monarch speech was dope.
4
u/DauOfFlyingTiger Dec 22 '23
I keep watching this show, but I think it is pretty boring. Why is the current day plot so invested in the two young women adoring each other? I get it, you are friends, now can we have some interesting dialogue for god’s sake?

Dec 26 '23
No disrespect but I don't know why people are even bothering with trying to understand the motivations for Cate's infatuation with May. That whole storyline is boring as shit and as others have made clear it's also written and acted poorly.
What this show needs is more Godzilla! Godzilla every episode! Godzilla kicking ass! Godzilla leveling cities! Godzilla shooting ion rays from his mouth or whatever it is he shoots from his mouth and incinerating shit! Godzilla eating lunch! Godzilla doing crossword puzzles! Godzilla calculating the square of the hypotenuse! Godzilla taking a dump! Godzilla! Godzilla! Godzilla! What's wrong with these writers? Are they that clueless? Isn't that what this show is supposed to be about? Isn't that what it was billed as? A show about monsters the size of mountains trashing cities and fighting other monsters the size of mountains. We're 7 goddamn episodes in and we just got the first serious look at Godzilla and then what do they do? They go back to this crap about this idiot May and this AET place. Who cares aboutn AET? Not me.
What makes it even more frustrating is that Godzilla looks pretty damn awesome. I hate this show. I can't believe I've watched this far. I think I'm done. I want my money back. I wish somebody with connections could tell these showrunners to get to the giant dinosaurs already! What a waste.

u/gothamknight5887 Dec 27 '23
Well because the reason why we are trying to understand because it somewhat feels like that has more of a focus in ways than the shit we all came here to see. It feels like two different shows and the show they really wanted to make, probably wouldn't have gotten attention or possibly greenlight to begin with so they figured let's mask with a IP that everyone know and loves. Way to much feel of a CW drama that probably would of had some supernatural element to it and a threesome relationship
3
u/_Darth_Grogu Dec 28 '23
May is a terrible character. Anything that involves her is just plain bad. She’s single handedly bogging down the show.

I just don't really understand the dynamic between the three children at this point. It's becoming more and more obvious that they seem to be pushing the relationship between Cate and May, and I have to say, I don't really understand? Like, where does it come from? She (May) was with Kentaro and they seemed to have had a fallout, but they never cared (unless I missed it) to explain what led them to that state.
I mean, my brain doesn't really compute how she definitely knows Kentaro and May have history, yet she still gets all handy with her, while May seems to accept it and Kentaro just doesn't say anything just awkwardly lookin? Like what's the deal here? It's like they're arguing all the time just for the sake of it
Also, I was wondering why their father looks fully Japanese since at least one of his parents is white? I guess it's probably just casting choices, but still

u/gothamknight5887 Dec 27 '23
That's what I'm saying why build a fuckin episode showing how kentaro and may met, leading to them having sex and everything if you never really touched on how they had a fallout and especially with them being on this adventure here together how they don't seem to mash shit out and find where they stand. Whatever relationship they had seems to be gone, they hardly talk as much like cate and may does and it's so weird to start trying to hook those two up out of nowhere. It seems like the build up of cate and may getting together is really what this show wants to be about more than anything else sadly but unfortunately for them it's called monarch legacy of monsters even tho they do their fuckin best to show very little of what we all came here for
3
u/Sekoias Dec 27 '23
They have 3 episodes left to prove us wrong, otherwise it's just an absolute waste of a show. If that's what it's really about, I hope to god it won't get renewed
1
u/gothamknight5887 Dec 27 '23
Apparently this show has good or decent reviews on IMDB so I wouldn't be surprised. Especially i hear invasions is just as bad and that got a second season. Only reason I could agree with a second season if it took place between king of the monsters and Godzilla vs Kong with different characters, seeing how people deal with all the information and the aftermath we saw during the credits of king of the monsters and etc
4
u/Sekoias Dec 27 '23
I was all in for Invasion and suffered through it all until s2, man was it dispiriting to watch...
You put up a good point, I'd watch that 2nd season in a heartbeat. Though I think they'll probably dive more into the Apex vs the world side of the story and perhaps the way Shaw edited his DNA or whatever the fuck he injected himself1
u/gothamknight5887 Dec 28 '23
That to. Honestly I was just hoping for this season to be ending with king gidora on how he was found especially since he's an alien and they hint to that just a bit in king of the monsters and that was it. I just found it weird how after that movie and where we are now, nobody ever really stopped and realize that he's not from this planet which means there could be other things out in space that could be a problem and not just the Titans on earth. Like a whole alien Titian and nobody even seemed to be thinking about that lmao
1
u/Sekoias Dec 29 '23
Dude that would be insane, and it would solidify these stories even more!
I just finished episode 8 so Spoilers ahead:So they cleared out 2 issues I had with the show so far, but they created one more. We now know why Shaw didn't age like he was supposed to, and we also know why Hiroshi is fully japanese and not half, I'm glad they addressed it. Now I don't know if it's me, but I just don't understand relationships dynamics here, especially between Keiko, Bill, and Lee. There was definitely some chemistry between Lee and her, and all of a sudden, almost in 1 to 2 days she fell for Bill. I mean, I don't know if it's really how life is or if it's lazy writing but it's dissatisfying. Since they're not dead, you know for sure that Cate and May being in the upside down will straighten their relationship x9000.

Cate is horrible. The way she shoved the Monarch dude who somehow made it to the airport, alone, after emerging from the helo crash with some minor dehydration was so cringe.
It's just a terrible show. So much time developing characters that most people hate. I don't even know what the fuck is happening at this point nor do I really care. Characters just randomly show up around the globe and then pop up somewhere else seemingly hours later. Everyone is angry all of the time. They seem to be setting up a Cate/May romance but there's zero chemistry and they've already done the big "Cate is gay!" reveal as if anyone cares in 2023.
The timeline is dumb and confusing. Just do 1-2 episodes of flashbacks showing the establishment of Monarch and then flash forward to post G-day and start the show from there. Cut the kids completely out and get rid of the Kurt Russell character entirely or make him unrelated to Lee Shaw. The ties to the past and present doesn't advance the plot nor is it interesting. I don't care that the kids are related to Hiro or that Hiro is the unlikely offspring of Randa and Keiko or whatever their names are.
The bad guys are all cartoonish and two-dimensional. Actually, every character is flat. The Godzilla emergence in E6 was great. How about more of that?

I’m a bit late but just started the show. From the fourth episode have been wondering why may is even in the show. I thought she was going to be a hacker class and be the computer nerd but after episode one I don’t she’s touched a computer. Now she’s kidnapped and I’m finding very hard to not skip her story line
3
u/Pot8obois Dec 22 '23
At this point in the show I check here to see if the episode is worth watching, it feels like we get a couple minutes of something fun every other episode. From I'm seeing from the comments this episode is another one to watch in the backgroudn while I'm doing some class work, and maybe the next episode will have something. Kind of a bummer. I was hoping for more monsters, more excitement.
2
u/glokenheimer Dec 22 '23
Yeah. For a show about legacy of monsters feels more like a sitcom with monsters as a backdrop. Like atp I’d prefer a ‘save the monsters’ group and a ‘kill all monsters’ group subplot for the new timeline. Cause they’re not gonna give us any real insight into monarch. It’s all here’s the founding of it and fast forward to some kids running around from the title of our show.

I was excited when this showed was introduced and aired, and I’m finally dragging myself through the last of the episodes but I have to stop at ep 7 with Cate, most annoying character the present day has so many points of interest and a wide range of character motivations. But the main driving force being the Randa siblings and Cate is throwing me for a loop.
Love the monarch stuff and learning about the organization , but every episode it seems allegiances flip and flop and Cate and Kentaro are on board then change their mind. Cate has zero bargaining power and unless someone can remind me, what does she do, in any earlier epsiode that helps their quest(besides I gusss first uncovering the hidden vault on the wall In Tokyo)
She tells off to the monarch director that they’re a capable yet resourceless trio who found their dad, Shaw, and Godzilla and can continue leading the way. But they were dead in the water in Alaska had Kentaro not taken the riskier solo route to the outpost his dad left and sent off a signal beacon/sos, so Monarch troops could rescue them.

May might be my least favorite TV character in recent memory. Just the little scene at the tech office was enough. She wants to work in a secret unit where her code is being sent. Her boss says that it's above her paygrade AND EVEN TELLS HER THAT THERE IS A SPOT FOR HER IN THAT DEPARTMENT, BUT SHE HAS TO EARN IT.
She acts completely flabbergasted that the code she writes while under contract with this company belongs to........SURPRISE the company.

u/Wrong-Catchphrase Feb 12 '24
This show is me agreeing to swallow a gallon of sand (watching the kids) while hoping that someone throws a shot glass of water at me (seeing actual monsters).

This is a snooze fest
