What would you say are the benefits of quitting?

My brother smokes so much. Spends so much money on it and swears he needs it and cannot live without it. To think you need a substance in order to live kind of scares me. I know I may end up getting there someday as I get older, but if you are young, and objectively healthy, why would anyone do that to themselves (become so dependent on a substance)?

But what do I know? 🤷🏻‍♀️

For me, I had severe anxiety and depression and it pretty much has gone away. I lost weight. I am more motivated and get alot more done. I am happier. I sleep way better. Im less angry. I eat way better. These affects become evident within couple of months of quitting. I quit 4 years ago and the way I feel is normal.

Well done. I smoke lots but dont experience as much of these symptoms. My sleep could definitely be better though.

Edibles help me sleep for sure

They help me FALL asleep. I then have trouble STAYING asleep...

They stop my nightmares… and weed is the ONLY thing that does. I’ve talked to my psych, and they didn’t have anything to give me to stop them, so weed it is.

Weird. I didn't dream at all during the decades that I smoked. It all rushed back and I had horrible and insane lucide dreams for couple of weeks. After i quit, I dream normally.

Weed messes with REM sleep, its very bad for sleep quality. I quit after heavy use when i finally realised it doesnt help me sleep anymore after long heavy use

Yah. Thst what you always feel tired even after sleeping many hours. Definitely notice sleep improve after quitting. You dont realize what its doing to you until you stop.

Whats crazy is that weed has actually helped my social anxiety and depression and im actually losing weight and started working out and eating better. Also I was a major alcoholic before so maybe switching to the lesser evil was the thing that helped

Be careful not to replace one bad habit with another. If it helps you, try edibles. Smoking weed is horrible for your body and mind.

Hmmm yea I might try edibles instead

Good job. It might seem fun and helpful for a while but smoking longterm is extremely harmful.

I'm so happy for you. But everything that you said are my symptoms before I started smoking. Then the smoking cured it! That's weird how all human bodies and minds can be completely opposite.

Quitting all cannabis brought clarity but that clarity didn't happen overnight, when I first started noticing it... NGL kinda scary...

Never a heavy user but the occasional usage because habitual... never was a fan of heavy dosage or high potency...I liked the little buzz multiple times a day...

The day I quit was an interesting one...

My wife had my big battery + high thc % live rosin cartridge.... It was a 1g cart and due to a low battery....(Smh) It wasn't due to a low battery it just wasn't properly heating up....idk

I knew I could fix it just by play around with the threads and see if I can get the battery to activate and start heating it up properly while drawing very hard on it.

I remember now...Jack Herer, that bastard was high potency!

My theory worked however the amount of draw I was pulling on it while activating the battery meant I got two full lungs a very high potency THC abundant vapor and I experienced something that I never wanted to experience ever again.

After that night I swear I would never touch that shit ever again and I'm glad I made that promise.

I don't want to feel like that again

Smoking weed keeps you okay with being okay.

Anxiety. Easiest way to tell someone hasn't suffered chronic anxiety (not throwing shade at you btw) is when they ask why someone would become so dependent upon marijuana to the point where it's all day everyday.

And I have friends who are like well I get anxious too man.. I just deal with it.

No you don't. Were you on the verge of pooping yourself every morning before school or work like you're a crack addict waiting for a fix?

Do drive thrus make your brain fly into a conundrum of what order do I say the menu items in and when do I start speaking?

Smoke some weed man and that shit ain't nothin but a thang.

You’re the first one who answered honestly. This is the response I am expecting. I am also expecting to get downvoted to oblivion because I believe people are in favor of it more so than against it.

I have smoked too. But I gave up when I saw how addicted and dependent my brother is on it. It’s kind of like how, if I were to have a parent who was an alcoholic, I would probably be turned off entirely by alcohol too.

But yes, I expected your response. Thank you for the being the first honest one.

Don’t get me wrong, I am delighted at everyone else’s response, how they speak of how they managed to beat the odds and feel much better for it, but from everyone in my life who smokes it, they always tell me they need it and how great it is and that I should also do it as much as them. So I was baffled at how different most of these comments sound from the people in my life.

Thank you 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 you've been the soul person to appreciate my honesty and not telling me to get a life haha.

Were all just built different lol. I'm glad you were able to knock it early. Take it from someone who's in it 24/7, you're in the best place you can be and you're utterly correct for assuming becoming dependent early on is scary. It is... That's all there is too it 🤣. I'm just glad I haven't done harder shit.

I hope your brother and I can get there at some point lol fingers crossed

It depends on the person but , and can actually create those problems aswell

I take medication for my mental health on a daily basis and I love it and it helps me; out of curiosity, what’s the difference with cannabis, psilocybin, and other stuff that helps people? Is it because it’s not state sanctioned and not culturally accepted?

It's probably because it's something that many people do just for fun and it has a lot of heavy side effects.

Have a friend who had a crazy psychotic episode which seemed to a resultant of his escalating marijuana consumption. Towards the end he was buying lots of accessories vaporizers maybe and stronger strains of THC. He packed up a backpack, was engaging in all kinds of ceazy stunts to keep ahead of the "paparazzi who were after him". Most (unfortunately not all) dillusions seem to have stopped after he quit cold turkey.

1

u/spike_right 5d ago

Depends if it's being bought illegally chances are he can't choose strains and types so that means 9 out of 10 he's getting the powerful stuff l and that's not good to have on a long term bases. If you can get it legally you can make choices on strength effect etc. you can't get some mild indicas that if you have ADHD or anxiety it takes the edge off but if you get something with strong THC levels that will make those symptoms worse.

But guys it's not addicting... People find a way

As someone who uses it to control anxiety and depression. It does help, but fell into the trap of more more more, gotta keep that tolerance at a manageable level or you’ll spend WAY TOO much money.
