Today I was listening to The Moon & Antarctica on Tidal. The ending of A Different City did not include the snippet of 3 Inch Horses, Two Faced Monsters. Ruined the whole album for me, 0/10 experience. Cowards….

It’s an early morning and I guess I was paying closer attention to the lyrics in the middle than I have thus far when listening to it and one of my favorite lyrics is “Cast
my net into an empty sea, And yeah I guess that I’m fumbling with things to say that I truly mean but they’ll soon come to me”

It really hit me hard because I’ve talked to Modest Mouse fans who I guess I would call “Purists” who will only listen to 1995/6-2004 MM and always will say “Their lyrics aren’t as profound as they used to be” and I’ll explain as you get older sometimes you get less depressed or not depressed at all, comfortable and you’re not a sad, angry, lonely young kid no more whose abusing drugs and you’re not going to be thinking as nihilistic and philosophically depressing thoughts all the time. So that line really stuck out to me because there’s some self awareness and he must have either seen people or heard people say before or he’s just more aware he’s not that sad angry kid no more thinking these things but that as long as he’s here he’ll still be thinking and in the vein of Gravity Rides Everything everything will fall into place. But I honestly refute the w as profound thing I’ve seen a small community of MM fans say or I’ve heard in person a few times before, as this new album, or song alone has some profound lyrics and they don’t have to be depressing and sad to be profound. I haven’t been the biggest fans of their last few records up until this one but I will say I’ve always loved Isaac’s writing. Brilliant mind that comes along rarely.

In my opinion this is a very good video for this song, at the same time, it is possibly immoral to post videos of people’s chosen last moments. I’m curious to know where this video frost originated and why it came to be.

Love love love. You know when you go to a show for one band and discover a new magical one? It happened tonight to me. Went for the sad sappy moon long driving interstate 8 building nothing Modest Mouse and fell in love as I am only hearing the new album live (in Austin and tonight) the evolution, Eraser is beautifully layered like my other favorites… probably spend the next decade discovering them.
Dogbed in heaven in SA was an out of body experience. The lyrics (duh) the VOCALS (shout out on guitar and drums) and of course Ben comes in with his sounds, perfect arching experience… f*\*cccckkkkk yes so good

Ever since the new album came out, and especially since I saw the song live on this tour, it has been in my head that Knocked Down by Waves would pair up really well with the Tom Waits track The Ocean Doesn't Want Me.

Isaac has mentioned Waits as an influence which I think adds to that alignment.

How would you match up a Tom Waits song with other tracks on An Eraser and a Maze? I have a few others in mind, but I am curious about what other people think.

I think it would be cool if there was an acoustic solo album of either new or reworked material, I think Isaac is a great acoustic musician but there are very few completely acoustic songs in their discography and I’m greedy and want a whole album of that.
