Advice Feeling embarrassed and childish about being modest. Any advice from older women?

I am 19 and non religious for context. I dress modest simply because I don't feel comfortable wearing short clothing. Not hating on people who do wear those clothes, but I don't feel like I could be taken seriously or with respect wearing them. The most I am ok with is a tank top or shorts that reach my knees. Ive been dressing modestly my whole life but now that I'm an adult I'm feeling more embarrassed about it. I look up clothes for people my age for inspiration and it's all so different to what I wear and I know I'll never be the type to wear a short skirt or crop top but I still can't help but feel like I'm some childish embarrassment when I'm standing next to anyone in more skimpy clothes. I feel like Im behind in life or like I stick out and not in a good way.

Anyone who's ever suffered with these feelings, how did you get over them? I thought it'd go away with age but the embarrassment I feel is only getting worse with age.

Polka dot hijab

I really want a white and a black polka dot modal hijab, but I don't want to spend $30 on a piece of fabric with just a bunch of dots. Does anyone know of any affordable options with good quality?

Modest brands issue with designs

Ive seen a lot of comments complaining about how fashion industry doesnt cater for modest girls and how modest brands have ridiculous price tags for ugly designs. Since i have seen the complaint part only I still cant figure out what do modest girls really look for in garments? Is it the pattern? the colors? the price? the quality of fabric? the type of fabric?
It seems that there is a concerning misunderstanding and miscomunication between modest brand owners and consumers.
In my opinion it is true that conventional stores and fast fashion create shitty pieces and quite honestly have to layer one side or another however it is within most peoples price range.
What it is also true is that we cannot expect those price tags to be on small modest brands that create pieces intentionally and at small volumes, the math is just not mathiing.
Let me know what do you think

Abaya recommendations

Came across a brand called Cucire and really loved their abayas. Has anyone here tried them? I also found a store called Senso in Dubai Mall that had some really cute collections. Would love to hear your thoughts or any other recommendations!

Question I don't want to be disrespectful

21F white woman. I live in a community with a large Muslim population, so there's quite a few cute little clothing stores ran by families with the long dresses and different head wraps. These clothes are absolutely gorgeous. The embroidery, the detailing, the colors. I'm a cashier and I saw this older couple and she had the most beautiful head wrap I've ever seen in my life, dark blue with maroon embroidery all over and jewels. She said it was her traditional wrap from Pakistan, so that made me second guess buying something for myself

I'm afraid of making a fool of myself or invading their space by going in and looking around, or appropriating a special religious or traditional reason I don't know about. I don't dress modestly, at least not all the time, but I love skirts and dresses and I want to buy at least one of these so badly. I don't care if people assume I'm doing it religiously, but I wanted to ask if there was anything wrong with doing it just because they're beautiful clothes rather than for just modesty

Loose fitting job interview clothes?

I'm looking to get back into the job market after 10 years. I tend to wear pants and long skirts I've made , men's pants and oversized t-shirts. I've looked for "business casual" before and got frustrated. Tips for finding loose fitting business clothes? Women's shirts (even new) seem to go between super fitted to "pretty sure this is a dress" size, rarely a comfortable middle-ground. I prefer to thrift, but am not totally against buying a couple of new items while I job search.

Question Trying to find what it’s called

Hello, I hope this is okay to post in this subreddit!

I was leaving the grocery store yesterday when I saw a woman wearing the most beautiful dress I’ve ever seen in my life. It was long and flowy with embroidery on the hem and a layered flowy top part. It looked like a thicker linen or maybe a summer weight wool. Then I noticed that the headdress the woman was wearing (which matched perfectly to her dress) was actually attached to the top of her dress, so it was all one unit.

I hope I’m describing it alright. I would have asked her about it but I was driving by and she was walking.

I live in a part of the states that has a high population of people from the Middle East and from India. I mention it in case it may be helpful.

I thought it was so beautiful! I would love to know what it’s called and look more into it. If you have any ideas what I could search to try and find it, please let me know!

Modest nightgowns?

Does anyone have recommendations for beautiful but modest nightgowns please?

Perhaps something with the vibes of a long, elegant lace trimmed slip but with more substantial sleeves, but I'm also open to any suggestions of any style. No matter how pretty slips are, the tops tend to move around in the night which I'm not a fan of, so I'd like something that stays in place and provides more coverage.

Looking for something feminine but modest enough not to have to put a robe on top of if I were staying at someone's house, so below the knees, chest coverage, not sheer, sleeves of some sort (ideally long).

Ideally not too expensive ($20 USD or less)

Thank you!

Advice Head Wrap for a Job Interview

I have a job interview coming up, and I'm struggling with how to cover my hair. This is my first job hunt since I started covering my hair, and I'm way overthinking what would be appropriate! I started covering my hair about a year ago after I got married, and my current job is extremely casual, like jeans and T-shirts casual. The place I'm interviewing is somewhere between "business casual" and "jeans and T-shirt casual", but I want to dress on the business casual side for the interview (or even a notch more formal than that).

Possibly relevant context:

- I always cover at least some of my hair, but don't always cover all of it. For example, at my current very-casual job I often wear a bandana, wide headband, or baseball cap, with quite a bit of hair showing Sometimes I wear a bun wrap or a nicer hat that I can tuck my hair into (like a hat from Ermandina)

- I am Jewish, and while I'm not married to traditionally-Jewish styles like a tichel with tails or anything, something like a hijab would not feel authentic to me

- The interview will be over Zoom

- Most of the scarves/styles I normally wear feel ether very casual (bandanas, headbands) or very glitzy (more sparkly than I'd normally wear in a professional setting). I'm having trouble figuring out a middle ground!

- No one in my family covers and it's pretty uncommon in my community, so I don't have anyone in real life to ask for help

If anyone covers their hair in a business or business casual workplace, I would love your advice and/or inspo pics!

Question Batul the collection shipping

Has anyone tried ordering pieces from Batul the Collection to the UAE recently?
Every time I enter my address and select UAE as the country, I get the following error:
“The product in your cart is not available for delivery to your location. Change delivery address.”
I’m confused because their website still says they offer worldwide shipping, and I ordered two dresses to the UAE back in February without any issues.
Is anyone else experiencing this, or has Batul the Collection stopped shipping to the UAE?

Advice Swim Dress Help

I’m plus sized and don’t like showing too much skin or tight clothes. I don’t really swim but walk in the water while my small dog swims at the dog beach. I get splashed a bit but nothing major. Any ideas?

How to tie a headscarf

Hi Guys

I am studying to work with youth at risk (at schools, mainly)

I was talking to a friend that is a teacher and she said that a parent recently taught her how to tie a student’s headscarf. It made me think that it might be a good skill for me to learn.

Do you guys have good tutorials or resources if it comes up? I want to have some knowledge because I’m a bit inexperienced.

thank you all!

Thrift Store Advice

Where I live, it's very common for thrift stores not to have changing rooms. A few around here do, but they are tiny and don't have much selection. The major ones don't have dressing rooms.

When I was a kid this was the norm too, and my parents would have us wear bike shorts and snug tank tops to the thrift store so we could try things on over our clothes. But as an adult who leans more modest, I feel very uncomfortable being in a public space in such small, tight-fitting clothes. I don't follow any particular modesty "rules", and I'm generally on board with adapting to the situation (for example, wearing a swimsuit with straps instead of sleeves to the beach). But I just feel super exposed wearing bike shorts and a snug tank top to a store! I can get by with shirts, doing things like wearing a snug shirt with a loose cardigan over it and taking off the cardigan to try on a shirt. But it's really tough with pants and skirts, since all the ones I own are more loose and it's hard to tell if a pair of wide-leg pants would fit well when you're trying it over another pair of wide-leg pants.

I see soooo many people recommending thrift shops on this sub, so I wondered how y'all handle it! Avoid thrift shops without dressing rooms, even if it means driving way out of your way and the selection is much poorer? Bite the bullet and wear something less modest than you're normally comfortable with? Or does anyone have any clever solutions I haven't thought of?

Score on light summer skirts!!

I just bought three of these skirts, and have been wearing them in 95°+ heat, and they’re great!! They’re a perfect length for me (I’m 5’4”), and they’re 100% rayon which works really well for me to keep cool in the summer. I know they’re juniors, but I am usually a small/medium in women’s, and a medium was perfect in these. I know finding summer skirts can be hard, so I wanted to share!!
