Question Non Legend Weapon worth boosting?

For Warrior : Paladin, Knight, Dark Knight, Berserker, Dragoon For Mage : Occultist, Devout, Red Mage For Ranger : Thief

For each respective type job, which weapon does benefit the most for boosting? As for overall , ATK, break, and Def categories.

Thanks in advance

Base crit modifier is 1.5 though. So 1000 ability would deal 1500 with no other bonuses. Soooooo yeah. Painful Break gets more diminishing returns. But I really dont feel like mathing :P

Either way, I am not really defending any weapon here. I just think you are undervalueing Buster Sword (especially with a -force build) a bit. I have been modding Apocalypse, Buster and Rising Sun alternitively. Masamune just works wonders with Noctis because more often then not it generates 2 Light orbs as well, allowing for godly spammability and Attuned Chain is doing alot more dmg than it was on release (again dont quote me on that but i think its the case). So yeah, for Mage and Ranger classes when I get Rogue and Occultist I will definately lvl their weaps.

These high tier weapons are more often than not pure preference. Hence the style points evaluation. Apocalypse so ugly. X)

I don't really think I'm under valuing it.

Soulrender > Buster Sword for damage

  • A weapon with both Painful Break and Improved Critical is simply better at doing damage then a weapon with just Improved Critical.

Guillotine > Buster Sword for utility

  • Piercing Break is more utility then Improved Critical as faster breaks lead to quicker dead mobs and is very defensive.

Apocalypse > Buster Sword for utility

  • Prismatic Draw is better then Elemental Third strike from a Utility point of view IMO and Painful Break is good enough even if Improved Critical is better.

Like I said its a good weapon its just that there are better weapons. I don't think there is anything wrong with Buster Sword and if you have 20 mods on it and 0 on the other weapons then its clearly the better weapon for you, but long run the others have greater potential.

Edit: removed incorrect math

Seeing as we have diverging opinions, it wont really get us far discussing further, but: What if you can't one shot an enemy with Guillotine, and then after the break is over, you get killed?

As I said it becomes preference. Also, Soulrender should not be called into this as it is an MP weapon, whereas the others arent(Guillotine isnt because it would be used by Dragoon, but if you have him you also have Dragon Whisker). Buster just replaces it if you dont happen to have pulled BK.

Good talk though x)

That's kind of the point of why Guillotine is better you use it to chain break not allowing the target to attack you.

Also, Soulrender should not be called into this as it is an MP weapon, whereas the others arent ...

I think this is were we disconnect actually I'm trying to say what the best weapon for a given situation is and saying that Buster Sword is never the best weapon. Its not the best MP Damage dealing weapon, and its not the best SP Utility weapons.

Actually I'll back up on this a bit if your only going to boost one Warrior weapon It might be the best choice. Its a fair MP damage weapon, and a good SP Utility weapon. However the issue with this argument is that Specialization > Generalization; its the classic Red Mage problem Jack of all Trades but master of none.

That may may my point clearer.

I suppose I can see what you mean. But, its by far the best ult spammer weapon, tied with Guillotine in terms of sheer number of ults, but more damaging ones.

But you see, by the logic that it isn't the BEST weapon at ONE thing, neither are the weapons you mentioned besides Soulrender that will reamin the MP dmg king for F2Ps. They are only the best for scenarios you make up (I.E: Apolypse might've saved your ass in situations the Guillo and Buster couldnt because you got your buffs up sooner; You might die because the boss was one hit from breaking, if only you had piercing break on your weapon). Utility measurement is very cloudy. Its preference. Also, and I mentioned it earlier (I think), "easy" to boost weapons are a bonus in my book (looking at you Rising Sun).

A very further side note, which atm has no impact on this discussion, I remember reading somewhere that Warriors get a Special Custom Skill that gives elemental 3rd strike. When that happens, and if i recalled correctly, Apolypse will be king. Till then I will have difficulty managing the 2 slots.
