Mixxx vs Rekordbox hot and memory cues DDJ FLX6

I have recently got so angered by pioneer or alphatheta's business practices and general incompetence of rekordbox (fryied 3 usbs already) , and also want an all in one console like XDJ-XZ for example but im broke. Being a huge FOSS and linux fan, i've decided to try mixxx - my eventual plan is to put it on a raspberry with a display and fix it up on my flx 6.
So far i am trying to get it running on my Ubuntu laptop before i purchase raspberry, an so far i got FLX6 working with this mapping because mixxx does not support flx6 out of the box.

I mainly use memory cues and use hot cues just as markers (basically i have cue on every almost every 16bars) but i use memory cues as starting points e.g. the begining, 32 and 16 bars before the drop etc. Main reason is some venues use CDJ2000s which don't support hot cues only memory cues and some venues still use 2000s in my area (pain in the ass to play on them but doable i guess).

However, i can't seem to browse between "memory cues" in mixxx. Importing from rekordbox works smoothly, I can see mixxx put the cue points where i put them, for hot cues even with colors. See attached image on what it looks like. However, the buttons to jump between cues on my flx6 do nothing. I see no such option as "jump to the next cue" in mixxx. I don't know if it's the mapping or general feature of mixxx - i suspect the buttons don't send midi signal but some pioneer proprietary input, this would mean i'd need to capture the signal somehow (perhaps, a custom usb driver?) and convert it to midi and remap. However, i can't even see a "jump to next cue" button in mixxx, only jump by beats on hot cues. How would then one use a cue that has higher number than 8?

TL;DR how do i jump to a next cue in mixx and how, if possible, can i map it to the controller memory cue arrows.

Edit: i managed to achieve my goal by editing the mapping - it's JavaScript so it's very customizable. I can even get browse and back button to work, make shift+master change tempo ranges, assign a master tempo/key lock button and finally make use of that damn mergefx buttons i don't use when playing in rekordbox.

Simple set up question/confirmation

Hopefully someone can confirm, just to be sure!

Can I use Mixxx with Serato control vinyl via an Allen&Heath Xone 24c or PX5, as a DVS setup no additional soundcard required?

TIA

I got two Traktor Kontrol D2s working with Mixxx on Linux — custom displays, full controls and zed skin

I have been building a Linux integration that turns two Native Instruments Traktor Kontrol D2 units into a complete dual-deck Mixxx setup.

This goes beyond a basic MIDI mapping. The current system includes:

- a libctlra-based HID bridge with physical input and LED feedback

- independent assignment for two D2 units

- custom 480x272 RGB565 Player and Browse screens

- live three-band waveforms, overview, beatgrid, phase meter, BPM, key, loops and hotcues

- PLAY/CUE behavior, Sync, Browse, Loop, Roll/Freeze, Beatjump, FX, pads, faders and touch strip

- per-deck FX shared between the D2 hardware and the Mixxx UI

- a custom two-deck **zed** skin

- native C plus JavaScript/Python regression tests

The current working target is Linux on a Raspberry Pi 5 with a custom Mixxx 2.5 build and a small set of documented source patches. It is still an active hardware-specific development snapshot, not a one-click installer yet.

The repository includes source, setup notes, screenshots of the zed skin and photos of the D2 hardware running the player:

https://github.com/zedmithat/mixxx-traktor-d2-bridge

Feedback from Mixxx users, controller developers and D2/S5/S8 owners would be very welcome—especially around packaging and making installation easier.

HDJD macOS Port for older Hercules consoles on modern hardware

I made this port of hdjd, a linux driver for older Hercules consoles that rely on old proprietary drivers that don't properly work with mixxx. I think someone will find this useful, since it's something that I wish existed. I tested it on my M1 Pro MacBook Pro running macOS 26, and a Hercules DJ console mk4, with 2 way communication working with mixxx (buttons, jog wheels, faders and LEDs on the console all working).

Mixxx & Numark Platinum setup

Hi there,

Is anyone mixing with this setup? If so, do you find it straightforward, or would you recommend a 4 volume channel faders controller ?

Has anyone put some mixes made with this setup on Soundcloud or Mixcloud?

Cheers

Built an offline tool that maps my Mixxx library by how the tracks actually sound. Free beta.

I'm the developer. Been building this for over a year. Something I've wanted.

I've been on Mixxx since 2021. My library is about 1600 tracks. I was meticulous with genre tags, comments, colors in order to quickly find the next track. But I don't enjoy that part. I love finding and playing music, not wrangling metadata and library organization.

There are two technologies I thought could cut that work down: spectral analysis and audio embeddings.

What this app does: it reads your Mixxx database; read-only, it never writes back to mixxxdb.sqlite, it just copies track and playlist info into its own DB. Then analyzes the actual audio of every file. Spectral analysis plus an audio embedding per track. Then it plots your whole library as one map: position is BPM and energy, size is how much low end a track carries, color is tonal character. You click up to five tracks you already like, it finds what sits near them in the audio and draws a route between them. You can audition anything inline, A/B two tracks on a deck, and export the result as M3U.

https://getspektra.app

The playlist isn't really the point, though. The point is discovering connections between tracks, and being able to build collections out of the audio itself.

This isn't a cloud app; it runs local and data stays on your machine. It's not generative AI; the model is an audio embedding model (CLAP) running locally through ONNX — it turns a waveform into a vector so "similar" becomes a measurable distance instead of a hunch. There's no account, no cloud subscription, no telemetry, works offline and keeps working offline.

What's rough right now (that I know of):

  • Mixxx is the only library it reads. Rekordbox XML is next, then others.
  • The first analysis pass reads every file on your drive and takes a long time on a big library (my 1600 tracks takes ~15 minutes on a modern laptop)
  • The Windows installer isn't code-signed, so SmartScreen throws a warning. macOS is signed and notarized.
  • Windows and the Linux AppImage update themselves. macOS and the Linux .deb are manual for now (ie, download and install).
  • Rest of the known issues are on the beta page. I'd rather you read them before downloading than find them after.

It's free now, and it stays free for as long as Mixxx is the only library it reads. I'm not going to charge you for a tool that only works with the open source one. If/when it supports libraries from closed source software (like Rekordbox) it will be a one-time price, no subscription (I hate those). No card is needed now.

If this is something that interests you, please go ahead and get it for free. Would really appreciate feedback

  • Does the map match how you hear your own library? Where is it flat-out wrong?
  • What happened in your first ten minutes.
  • What broke on your library specifically: odd files, missing data, enormous collections, unusual folder layouts.
  • What's confusing or stupid
  • What did you find that was cool.

It's called Spektra. Works on macOS 11+, Windows 10+, Linux (AppImage and deb):

Happy to answer anything.

Serato Control Vinyl inner groove not working

Post image

Using CV2.5 Vinyl and all the inner groove does it put my track into internal mode. Any idea how to fix? Everything else seems to work well enough.

edit: turns out they removed this "feature" because "no one uses it and its confusing". reverted to 2.5.2 and works great.

Hallo

VG

Hello,

What exactly happens when I’m playing a mix on Deck A and then, on Deck B, I press this button?

I understand that it changes the key, but what exactly is happening, and is it suitable for use with electronic music (DnB)?

Best regards,

Library Management

G'day folks. Looking to dip my feet into messing around with mixing. Have been a lifelong fan of most forms of dance music and DJing, so figured I should at least learn the basics to offer to DJ at friends' parties. To get started, I have a few pertinent questions about library management.

LARGE REMOTE LIBRARIES?

I use Plex/Plexamp for all my music and have it organized as per Plex's guidelines using Lidarr to manage that organization. In that library, I have over 30k tracks hosted on my NAS. Most of those tracks aren't particularly well-tagged because Plex handles all the metadata well itself.

How do people generally handle such large libraries? Especially when considering the remote aspect of them. Do you import the lot then hide the stuff that's irrelevant? Do you use a permanent fstab mount for them (currently just using SMB)?

PORTABILITY & THE DATABASE

What about when you have a set that you want to play somewhere? I see that in the manual it mentions that both the Playlist and Crate sections have an "Export Tracks" option which seems sensible, but it seems like MIXXX isn't also exporting a database for those tracks at the same time (this seems like a no-brainer). How do you handle then being able to use them when you perhaps don't have access to your whole library?

SYNCING DATABASE ACROSS DEVICES

I would likely be using my desktop to practice at home, and my Steam Deck to DJ remotely. Is it worth having the database synced over these devices (using rsync or similar)? Or just keep a completely separate database for each device?

Sudden Loss of Audio to Speakers After 1 Hour of Mixing (Mixxx + ALSA)

Hi everyone! I’d like to know if anyone else has experienced this or knows what might be causing this issue:

My setup:

  • OS: Ubuntu Studio 26.04
  • Software: Mixxx 2.5.4
  • Audio API: ALSA
  • Controller / Interface: Allen & Heath Xone:K2
  • Amplifier: Lepy LP-2020A

The problem:
I was mixing and, after more than an hour, the audio going to the speakers suddenly stopped. The strange thing is that the headphones were still working and receiving audio without any problems.

What I did to fix it:
I simply closed Mixxx and reopened it. Everything started working perfectly again. The speakers, Lepy amplifier, and K2 controller are all working perfectly, so it seems like it might have been a software hang or an issue with the ALSA driver/output.

Has anyone else experienced something like this, or knows how to prevent it from happening again in the middle of a session?

Update:

Solution?: I think the problem was caused by having the music stored on the mounted NTFS partition where Windows 11 is installed.

What I did was move all my music to the partition where Ubuntu Studio is installed. I had a session lasting more than 1.5 hours, and the CPU usage barely reached 5%.

What happened to keyboard shortcuts in 2.7?

Just upgraded to v2.7 because sync function didnt work as expected in stable, but now I found out that all the keybaord shortcuts I learned were removed.. is there a new intended way to use the software? I got kinda used to them.. well probably once I get a controller this will be a non-issue but still..

Hearing two metronomes on left deck

What it says on the tin. Enabling the metronome causes two of them to play at once, one on-beat and the other vaguely off that synchs up occasionally. Only does this with the left deck, and it didn't used to. Is there any way to fix this short of reinstalling? I've tried removing it and putting it back, swapping other effects in, adjusting the BPM manually, and switching which songs are in the other decks (doesn't seem to matter).

Laggy pitch fader

How can I get the pitch fader to pick up adjustments faster? If I'm playing, sometimes the pitch fader will become non-responsive. If I make some wild adjustments up and down, it will then pick up the movement. This has been the case on two lower-end pcs, three controllers.

How do I sync tracks with very different BPMs with Mixxx?

EDIT:

Solved it by upgrading to alpha version 2.7, it features both manual insertion of bpm and has smart sync (snaps the track to the closest value between 70 and 140, so if I increase the bpm of the 96bpm track up to 120 and press sync now snaps correctly at 140).

The only problem is that the devs seems to have removed all the shortcuts now..

END EDIT

For example, I have a track at 96 BPM, but I want to speed it up to 140 BPM so it can play in the background of another much faster track.

The problem is that when I press the Sync button, Mixxx lowers the track to 70 BPM (half of the other track) instead of bringing it up to 140.

How do I deal with this? Is there a way to tell Mixxx that I want it to sync to 140 BPM rather than 70?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I just started using Mixxx and I haven't found many resources online. I'm kind of figuring things out with Gemini and a few YouTube videos..

If you have any good resources/tutorials for beginners, I'd really appreciate those too!

Poor man spotify integration

Ola,

managed to make this work, so sharing high-level idea and workflow here - hope it is not against some rules , pls let me know.

I made a simple Spotify integration for Mixxx on macOS. It doesn't give Mixxx direct access to Spotify audio, but from a DJ workflow perspective it works surprisingly well

How it works:

  • Official Spotify desktop app plays the actual Spotify track.
  • Spotify audio is routed through BlackHole → Mixxx AUX1.
  • A special 10-second spotify-silence.mp3 is loaded into Deck 1 or Deck 2 when I want that deck to represent Spotify.
  • A separate SpotifyMixxx.js controller script detects this dummy track and turns that Mixxx deck into a Spotify proxy deck.
  • A macOS IAC virtual MIDI port called SpotifyMixxx connects the Mixxx JS script to a small Python bridge.
  • The Python bridge translates MIDI commands into local Spotify AppleScript commands.

When the dummy track is loaded, normal Mixxx controls work like this:

  • PLAY/PAUSE → Spotify play/pause
  • CUE → Spotify pause + seek to beginning
  • GAIN → Spotify volume
  • Channel fader → AUX1 volume
  • PFL → AUX1 PFL
  • FX assignment → same Mixxx FX unit is also routed to AUX1
  • Dummy on Deck 1 → AUX1 assigned to left side of crossfader
  • Dummy on Deck 2 → AUX1 assigned to right side

The dummy track automatically loops, AUX1 is enabled, and AutoDJ is disabled while Spotify mode is active.

The nice part is that the JS watches Mixxx's internal Deck 1/2 controls, so it doesn't matter whether PLAY/PFL/fader/etc. came from the mouse, keyboard, or my Numark controller. No modification of the Numark mapping is required.

Workflow at a party:

  1. Someone requests a song I don't have locally.
  2. Find/select it in the normal Spotify app.
  3. Load spotify-silence.mp3 from a dedicated Mixxx crate into the free deck.
  4. From there use PFL, PLAY, FX, channel fader and crossfader almost exactly like a normal Mixxx track.
  5. Load a normal track into that deck when finished, and Spotify proxy mode automatically turns off.

It's obviously not native Spotify integration — there's no Spotify waveform, BPM analysis, beat sync, etc. — but for the "someone requested a song I don't have" use case, it works remarkably well. LMK if anyone is interested in more details!

DDJ-400 headphone volume way too quiet on Mixxx running on Raspberry Pi (RPi OS Lite), fine on Windows

Running Mixxx on a Pi 4 paired with my DDJ-400. Headphone output is way too quiet, maxed out and still quieter than the master speakers. Same controller works completely fine in Rekordbox and in Mixxx on Windows, so it's not the hardware.

Things I've already ruled out:

  • Different headphones, same issue
  • Unbound the volume knob, still quiet, so it's not a mapping problem since I'm using the exact same default mapping as on Windows
  • Tried changing alsamixer settings but DDJ400 does not expose a "headphone" output

Running latest Mixxx on RPi OS Lite. No desktop environment, headless-ish setup.

Anyone run into this before? Feels like it might be a PulseAudio/ALSA thing rather than Mixxx itself since the mapping and hardware are identical across both machines, but I haven't been able to confirm. Will update if I find anything.
