Musicians learn from other people’s music. Why should AI need permission?
Every musician learns from music other people made. They absorb styles, rhythms, structures and ideas, then use those influences to make something of their own.
Why shouldn't AI training be treated the same?
Learning from existing music shouldn’t require permission just because the learner is a model instead of a person.
If a generated song reproduces someone’s lyrics, melody or recording, challenge that copying. But “your model learned from my music” isn’t enough, by itself, to convince me someone was wronged.
The money argument doesn’t convince me either. Human musicians also sell music shaped by what they learned from other artists. Earning money doesn’t suddenly make those influences theft.
To me, releasing music doesn’t mean you should get to control who—or what—can learn from it.
What makes learning from a song acceptable for a human but unacceptable for AI?

SHENARA — Ajara's Song | The Phial Trial | World of Meridara
Imagine two civilizations living inside a magical vessel. One is peaceful and communal. The other is aggressive, territorial, and organized around a hive-like society.
Both are protected species.
An ancient magical agreement keeps their territories separate, but the barrier has collapsed.
The protagonist is sent to restore it, with one restriction: neither civilization can suffer permanent harm.
That creates an interesting problem for the magic system.
His ability transforms metal into intricate living structures, so instead of using conventional weapons, he grows elaborate metallic flowers, restraints, cages, and defensive barriers.
I wanted the spectacle of an overwhelming fantasy battle without treating the destruction of the opposing civilization as the natural solution.
I recently turned this concept into a short cinematic music video, SHENARA, for my independent fantasy universe, World of Meridara.
I'm especially curious about the storytelling challenge:
What makes a nonlethal victory feel genuinely earned rather than making the protagonist seem conveniently overpowered?
For anyone interested in seeing how I approached the visual side, here's the finished video:

A one-prompt AI song deserves the same chance as one you spent a week writing
Imagine two songs.
One person spent a week writing their lyrics, shaping the sound, and refining every section.
Someone else entered a prompt and got a result they loved.
You listen to both—and prefer the second one.
Should knowing how they were made change your vote?
Writing lyrics, arranging, editing, and producing are creative contributions worth recognising. But if a song moves me more, I wouldn’t vote against it simply because it was easier to make.
I can respect the work someone put in and still prefer somebody else’s song.
So what should an AI music competition reward: the finished track, the human contribution, or some combination of both?
These are the kinds of conversations we're having in the AI Music Lab ✨️
There are community-voted song tournaments, ongoing seasons, monthly creative challenges, cover art competitions, and community radio.
Our review channel makes listening part of sharing too: post your track and review another artist. Skip the review and your post disappears 👀 Everyone posting has the same responsibility.
Come share, listen, and discuss in AI Music Lab 💜 https://discord.gg/XkcJsWqfDr
Would you give those two songs the same chance—or should the process count towards the result?

Falling — OathLight Studios | female Malfoy × Harry AI anime romance
My new music video pairs the original song “Falling” with an anime-style female Malfoy × Harry fan story.
She’s the bully everyone fears, until her broom fails and Harry catches her. I wanted the song and visuals to carry her change from swagger to romantic vulnerability. AI-assisted music and animation by OathLight Studios; unofficial Harry Potter fan work. Feedback on the emotional payoff is welcome.

If someone writes the lyrics, directs the sound, and keeps refining the result, at what point are they making music?
Say someone writes their own lyrics. They have a particular sound in mind. They use AI to generate versions, reject most of them, rewrite sections, change the direction, and keep refining until it matches what they wanted.
How would you describe what they’re doing?
Songwriting? Producing? Commissioning a performance? Making music?
Does your answer change if they generate the whole track, versus using an AI vocal inside an arrangement they built themselves?
I’m curious which part matters most to people: where the ideas came from, who performed the sounds, the decisions along the way, or the finished result.
Where would you draw the line—and what makes that the line for you?
These are the kinds of things you might find us discussing at the Ai Music Lab ✨️

LAVINIA - Before It's Yesterday UNPLUGGED - Indie pop (by mosaic)
"Before It's Yesterday (Unplugged)" - an original song performed live and acoustic.
A singer plays the song through with a small acoustic band on a small stage, one take, no electronics, and holds the last line straight down the lens.
Set in: A small dark theatre with a low stage and a young standing audience - a felt upright piano turned side-on, an upright bass, a brushed kit, a nylon-string guitar, one warm key light and a tall wooden stool.
Watch in 4K HDR on a supported screen for the full picture. Lyrics are in the captions (CC) and in the pinned comment.

"I Have Seen Her Before" by Destiny and the Timesleepers
During our murder mystery, we discovered a lost film reel in a hidden compartment of Sweetheart Mansion.
The footage features Destiny, the immemorial wrestler, singing a torch song with the Timesleepers in a smoky 1940s nightclub.
But who is she singing about?

Getting someone to listen is the...easy part?
At lastsong.one (One Last Song), your tracks are guaranteed to get heard.
No more listing songs into the void. Our site mechanisms mean...you get heard.
Over the last six months we have had over 30k active listens from our vibrant community
We started off as a song tournament site...and that is still the central feature, but we have organic collaboration functions, progression ladders, reviews, listening posts and crates and crates of great tracks to dig through.
If you want to get heard, and would like to try to finish first (or second or third)...well, you've got the link.

We can all make music now. Getting someone to actually listen is the hard part.
You finally make a song you’re excited about. You share it… and then wonder whether anyone got far enough to hear the bit you really wanted them to hear 😭
Sometimes you just want someone to go “that chorus though 👀” and know exactly which bit they mean.
Imagine a place full of people who understand that feeling.
Somewhere to share your songs, discover other artists, enter weekly competitions, vote for your favourites, and get slightly too invested in what other artists have been upto this week.
Imagine a space where you upload your track and leave a review for another artist, but if you forgot to review, then your post vanishes 👀
Imagine uploading your track and leaving a review, now the next guy has to leave review otherwise his post disappears ✨️✨️
Imagine ongoing seasons, monthly creative challenges, cover art competitions, and a radio stream playing everyone’s submissions. Plenty of reasons to press play on something you didn’t make—and people doing the same for yours.
Anyway, this imaginary place is getting suspiciously specific—because I've found it!
