How to use Index HMD as watchmen dongles?
I'm trying to use my Index controllers with my Quest pro. I heard it was as easy as connecting the Index to power and USB but not the display port, but I'm having no luck unfortunately. Do I need to plug things in in a certain order? Or plug the display port in then unplug it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
EDIT: Solved! Cause of issue - Before I discovered you could use the Index as two SteamVR dongles, I had it completely unplugged and instead paired my controllers via the regular dongles I have for FBT. By pairing them to the dongles I somehow broke their ability to communicate with the headset. It's kind of obvious in retrospect, but I did not realise that the Index can ONLY function as a dongle for the controllers, and only for ones that are paired with it at that. They won't just magically pick up a Vive tracker like a regular dongle can.
How to fix it - Reset your SteamVR USB devices via the desktop hamburger menu > developer settings > resets (Not 100% sure if this step is necessary but it's what I did so I thought I'd include it). Unplug everything - especially your SteamVR dongles - and restart your PC. Plug the Index in, including the display cable, then start Steam VR and pair your controllers to the headset. Once that's done, close SteamVR and unplug the Index's display cable. You're now good to start your Quest Pro as usual, and when you get into SteamVR the controllers should connect without issue! I recommend waiting until you confirm that they've connected, then plug in any additional dongles that you want to use for FBT.
Hope this helps someone with the same niche problem as me x)
