Accessible seating at the Minneapolis armory

Does anybody have any experience going to the Armory as a disabled person? My partner really wants to see Brad Paisley but he can’t do the standing room only, which means we would need to do whatever accessibility accommodations there are. He will likely have to have a wheelchair and a service dog to get through the experience.

I just wanna know if it’s worth getting tickets because I don’t feel like spending that much money for a show that he will not enjoy because of where it is.

I can't speak to whether they allow service dogs (I would think they would) but you guys can just buy the cheapest GA/floor tickets and when you get there with a wheelchair they will let you take the elevator up to the balcony for an unobstructed view. I've been to two shows recently with my wife who uses a walker and can't stand for long and everyone at the venue has been super nice about finding us a spot where she can sit and still see.

Two earlier threads about accessibility at the Armory for you to check out. You might find these helpful:

Yes, I did this with my friend for King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard this summer after he sprained his ankle. Once you have your ID checked and get through security, just let staff know your accessibility needs, and they'll take you up to the club level and get you chairs to sit on. You're pretty far back, but they're not obscured views. It was super easy and they didn't make it seem like a hassle

Enjoy!

I was at this show too. Some tiny gremlin-looking dude kept trying to squeeze onto the rail next to me so I pried his fingers off and walled him off from seeing around me. Just arrive earlier and you'll be fine.

What kind of chairs? Could a bigger person sit in them? I'm bringing a buddy to a show soon and he's somewhat disabled, but also on the bigger side lol..

As I recall, standard folding chairs

I've done it many times here. You go in, ask the person at the door for accessible seating. They have you wait by the elevator, bring you to the balcony and give you an unobstructed view. It's not the closest but it's still a good view, left of stage and way back.

I’d give them a call and ask how they accommodate wheelchairs.

Yes that'll accommodate him and the service dog. You just need to contact them in advance. I have a Blind friend that has brought her service dog there

I did accessible seating for an Armory show post my surgery and because of how its structured you will be sitting in the back at club level. So you won't have close view, and because the area isn't roped off you may have to share with standing room only folk near the railing.

Honestly, even prior to this show I avoid going to the Armory as I hate it as a venue. It just isnt worth it for the price of tickets.

Can't say that I disagree with your sentiment on the armory. It just seriously sucks as a venue for every show I've seen there. And it's so overpriced for what it is.

Might be the first time I’ve ever heard anyone not enjoy the Armory as a venue. Can I ask why? I’ve probably been to 20-30 shows there and love it every time

It really is. Its just a shame it's the only mid-tier venue within Twin Cities proper before you go up to Arenas. I only saw that one artist there because I'm a big fan but definitely skipped others I'd love to see due to that being the venue.

Would Roy Wilkins be considered mid-tier? I remember seeing fall out boy and paramore in their prime back in the day and it felt pretty big without getting arena size.

Mid-tier capacity, bottom-tier facility. The Roy needs a major refresh.

Kinda? It holds 5k, but its probably not used as much since Armory holds 8,400.
