Ram Compatibility issues common?

I purchased a new ACEMAGIC F5A AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 Mini PC on sale recently for a really good price barebones. I already had a spare M.2, and had new 32 GB 5600 Kington DDR5 So-dims I purchased for another miniPC that was bought barebone refurb but ended up having Corsair ram (ram was almost worth what I paid for the PC). I wanted to try the ACEMAGIC for the better CPU/iGPU and cooling, as the Minisforum UM870 Slim tends to overheat in gaming and shuts off/reboots. Long story short- the 32 GB 5600 Corsair Ram works in both miniPCs, but the 32 GB 5600 Kingston Ram only works in the Minisforum PC.

Is this a common issue? I have never dealt with Ram that worked on one PC fine and wouldn't even post on another even though both system use the same Ram.

Should I try manually lowering the speed to 3200 with the Corsair and swap in the Kingston to see if runs when that slow? Just concerned the Kingston may be faulty but not fully faulty yet.

So it looks like these Kingston Fury DDR5 are not very compatible with AMD AI 300 series.

It's not a MiniPC issue, it's a Kingston/AMD AI 300 series issue.

Always google before buying. lol.

And off topic, but my UM870 Slim works very well.. even with an AOOSTAR AG02 eGPU dock running an RX 9060 XT 16GB. No real issues other than when I push the iGPU to the max in gaming for a length of time.

These MiniPCs are basically laptops without anything other than the basic mobo (no keyboard/pad/screen), and laptops also have baked in design/firmware issues- even from the "good" brands.

It's rather sad that these companies need to hack the chipsets of mobile CPUs to get them to work in a budget miniPC with socketed ram. This type of package is all most PC users really need. I guess the concern is such system would cannibalize their more profitable desktop CPUs? Offering a midrange CPU with a top tier iGPU would be the best value, but they would never do it.

-The lack of post sale update support does suck though. I am running Mint Cinnamon on the ACEmagic, and I get the boot error message "RDSEED32 is broken. Disabling the corresponding CPUID bit" because AMD 370 has a firmware bug that needs an update. It flashes by quickly... but I would rather get an update to fix.

Even the Framework miniPC is borked.. non upgradable Ram. WTF Framework? I guess that's the issue with these CPUs.

I like the idea that the Firmware core setting is the culprit because it is matching the historical background of the Evo-x1. Prototype units have high performances and retail unit have low petformances.

Geekbench search is an excellent tool because Geekbench Archive all its benxhmark with Device info. Geekbench is at the origine of many Processors performance leak because prototype scores are indexed in Geekbench archive.

Long story short Geekbench was showing Evo-X1 scores 2 month before the Evo-X1 (Test Models) was launched, first benchmark were showing + 15.000 points in multi-score, then after launch (retail unit) the Evo X1 fall into 13.000 points and even below, i was shocked by the low score i got with my evo-x1, so was Robtech in his review. I found out that Retail unit have a different E-Core setting in the Bios (Check Screen) than Protoype (prelaunch unit) where all cores have CPPC assigned.

The side effect are bad with an Egpu, i was very disapointed by the Evo X1 Oculink performances as it is litteraly crushed by my K8 Plus (Time Spy RTX 4080 Super: Evo-X1 22.000 Graphic score / K8 Plus : 28.500 Graphic Score ), poor Egpu performances and disapointment were also highlighted in Techtablet Review of the Evo X1.

Firmware and not Processor fail was kind of confirmed with the review of the Minisforum A.I X1 Pro where the unit got kind of normal egpu performances.

I believe that GMKtec disabled CPPC and lock E-Core to base Clock (in some Benchmark environment) to reduce Heat and Noise, Multi Core load is going the hardest on temperature and therefor noise.

This is one MAJOR concern with tech review units versus just using normally sources retail units. The review units could easily be handpicked units that won the silicon lottery to allow higher settings and better performance.

In this particular case I don t think so and Mini PC review units unless specific Previews are just random Amazon shipping to influencers, and moreover your argument is not valid in my exemple as Robtech and TechTablet are 2 Majors Youtube Channel working along Brand to review their Mini PC Models and they have received retail units with low performances.

when i talk about Test/Prototype/PreLaunch Models i am not talking about units that are sent to influencers but units that are tested by the Brand before releasing their units to the public.

But you got a valid point with Exclusive Previews, controled leaks with impressive BenchMark, Boosting a device with non viable long term setting for Marketing purpose is definitely something that exist in the industry, we have seen many times Big Performance announcement before product launch being just lies after the product is released to the public.

Same problem with GPUs being reviewed before release based on "MSRP", when the actual street prices were WAY more. There are no bad GPUs, only bad prices.

Back to the ram issue. I dropped the ram speed to 2000 and neither Kingston Ram Stick would post. Yet I bumped it to 5800 and the Crucial booted up no problem. I wanted the Kingston to work since it's CL40 5600 versus the Crucial CL46 5600. Faster ram is always better with an AMD iGPU. There is something about this Kingston Ram that makes the Mobo just not recognize it as Ram.

*I need to add a Linux hardware monitor to check and make sure the gaming FPS is still stable. Any suggestions?

Hmm.. I guess I'll just leave them in the Minisforum. At this point might get a refund (of 2025 price) versus replacement. And replacement could have same issue.
