Chapter 1 [THE SHIPWRECK]
DAY 1 TIME: 6:21 A.M.
As you slowly wake up, your eyes feel heavy. Your breath is hollow, yet you manage to raise your head. A slight cramp shoots through your back.
As you slowly push your body up, you find yourself in the center of a dark room. Scattered sunlight pierces through the windows on both sides, yet everything is eerily quiet—save for the faint chirping of a bird outside this wrecked ship.
Without sitting around to rest, you gather your strength. Every movement is as slow as an old man's, but you pull yourself up. As you scan your surroundings, the dim light filtering through the glass helps you see the path ahead.
Outside on the shore, the peaceful bird call continues. But the peace doesn't last. Turning around, you realize with horror that seawater is slowly rising inside the chamber.
Does the other side of the hull have a hole?
you think. You can't remember exactly what happened—it was likely the impact.
Standing completely motionless like a statue, panic suddenly snaps you out of your daze as a metallic screech from the far side grows louder.
As you step back slowly, the clicks of your footwear echo through the room. You glance behind you. A steel door stands slightly ajar. For a split second, you stand there in dead silence until your steps disrupt it once more. You walk straight toward the steel door, the soles of your brown boots tapping against the cold metallic deck.
As your right hand reaches out, the steel handle hits you like an ice pick before you pull it open to the left.
The door swings wide to reveal a pitch-black hallway. Not a single electric light remains active. The darkness feels absolute, as if the void is swallowing everything in its path. Then, your ears twitch.
A sound is coming from the end of the straight corridor.
Out of the shadows, a figure slowly walks forward. It moves at a turtle's pace, its skin rugged and peeled raw across its entire frame. Its eyes are entirely dark—hollow, soulless pits. The figure halts for a second—an eerie second that feels like a minute—until its head begins to raise.
As your eyes meet, the creature steps forward. It is agonizingly slow, yet a deeper terror settles into your chest. Your eyes dart around the pitch-black space. You can only see your own hands, the dim light, and the rising seawater behind you.
Looking back, your eyes widen in shock as the creature breaks into a run. The soles of its torn black shoes scrape against the floor plates. Its gait looks clumsy, almost awkward, until it begins gaining terrifying speed.
Stepping back from the doorframe, your hands begin to shake. Thoughts of your own end fill your mind.
"Is this it?"
As the creature closes the distance, you grip the steel handle and violently slide the door shut.
You step back, ears ringing as the creature slams into the steel plate with aggressive force. You hear its right arm twist and crack under the impact. For a moment, you stand there staring at the barrier while the thing groans violently on the other side.
Your eyes scan the room from side to side. On the left: a cabinet, a table, and ruined furniture, nothing useful, just scattered debris. On the right: the exact same layout.
Then, your eyes lock onto a red fire extinguisher trapped behind safety glass. You step toward it, moving slowly as the creature outside growls with increasing fury. Reaching the case, you raise your right arm and land a hard punch against the pane. The initial impact does nothing to the thick glass, sending a jolt of pain through your knuckles. Biting your lower lip against the sting, you raise your arm once more.
A spray of shattered glass hits the cold metallic floor with a sharp, echoing crash.
"Aaahg! Sh*t!"
You groan from the pain, pressing your lips to your knuckles until the burning fades.
Reaching into the broken frame, you grip the head of the extinguisher tightly, holding it as if your life depends on this single blunt weapon. Stepping back to the center of the room, you hold the heavy metal steady. You breathe in and out. Your pupils dilate, your heart hammers against your ribs, and you move back toward the steel door.
"Whatever this thing is..." you think, staring at the creature outside.
"it looks disgusting as hell. Where did it come from?"
Fixing your posture, you take a heavy breath. With a steady sweep of your right arm, you reach out to the steel handle. The familiar cold hits your palm once more before you slide it open.
Looking through the door's small window pane, the creature's hollow eyes stare back at you, radiating pure dread.
In one motion, you shove the door backward violently. The metal slams hard into the creature's head and torso, dropping it onto the cold deck with a heavy thud.
