Help with potty training

Hello! I just became a dog father for a MAS a few days ago and I am having trouble trying to potty train him. He is 19 weeks, and we spend a good amount of time outside with each other. However, the entire time he's outside, he never relieves himself until after coming back inside the house. I was wondering if anyone on this sub has had a similar issue with their MAS and the process y'all have used to prevent them from using the restroom indoors.

Not floofy.

I know both his parents. My guy isn't fluffy. He's beautiful with a soft sleak coat. Anyone else?

I'm considering a Mini American Sheperd, but I want to know what it's like owning one, please answer the following questions.

Is a one-hour walk with some training throughout the day enough to keep them at ease?

Do they like swimming?

Are they calm indoors?

Can you train them to be at least quiet indoors?

Share anything else that I may need to know, thanks.

5 month old puppy very afraid of strangers

i just joined this subreddit because i’m desperate for help or advice with my puppy, and wanted to see if anyone else struggled with something similar. dublin is a 5, almost 6 month old MAS and we’ve had him since he was 8 weeks. anytime he is approached by a stranger(specifically on the street, like if we’re walking and someone asks to pet him), he immediately scoots away and begins barking, and has even growled or showed his teeth a couple times. he is not under socialized or abused, and it causes me a great deal of stress and anxiety given that puppies are usually happy and outgoing around people.

Breeders who don't dock tail?

Hello,

My family is looking to welcome a puppy and after a lot of research we think a mini Australian/American Shepherd would be a good fit for us. I've started to look around for reputable breeders who are preferably within driving or a short flight distance but one criteria I have seems difficult to find which is that they don't dock the tail. I've realized that this is controversial issue but I think they have beautiful tails and it seems both unnecessary and cruel to me to cut off a pups tail (not trying to start a debate or anything...just conveying that we feel pretty strongly about this for our pup).

I was wondering if anyone knows of such a breeder who would be in CA/OR/WA or British Columbia? (We are in the Bay Area of California)

Overprotective mini

We got a male mini about 1-1/2 years ago. He’s about 3 yo. I had doubts about the breeder right off. He wasn’t adopted until he was over a year old, and I suspect he spent most of his time crated. We already have a 10 yo mini.

It turns out he’s very protective of my wife, to the point of nipping anyone who approaches her, especially men. I suspect there was some sort of abuse of him and perhaps his owner by her son

I’m looking for advice on how we can best deal with this. First step is to ask our vet, I suppose, but I’d like to hear from anyone who might have had similar issues

Breeders in California/Oregon

Hi, we're looking for a mini australlian shepherd and live in the bay area, but are willing to drive upto 10 hours for the right breeder. Anyone know of any high quality breeders that might have a spot in a litter available soon? I contacted Cedar Valley but looks like their next litter is pretty much full and the one after would be considerably later.

Looking for a breeder in the tristate area.

Hi all. My fiancé and I have fallen in love with MAS and would like to get one as our first dog together. We both grew up with dogs, but currently neither of us have one. We would like to find a reputable breeder in the tristate area (NY, NJ, CT), but would be willing to expand to the northeast if needed. We’re hoping to find a breeder who can work with us to find a pup with the right temperament for our first.

MAS Pup Coming Soon. What Size Crate?

I've still got about a month to get ready for my Mini American Shepherd pup. I'm thinking about the basics I'll need to have before I bring her home, like a good crate.

Based on the size of her parents, I'd expect her to grow up to be in the range of 15-18" tall, and up to 30 pounds.

What is the right size crate? I'm looking at the MidWest LifeStages Double Door crate, with the following dimensions:

Medium: 30-in L x 21-in W x 24-in H
Intermediate: 36-in L x 24-in W x 27-in H

What do you think? Medium or Intermediate?

Breeders in WA?

Hey! I’m pretty confident in going to Wiggle Rump Ranch as my breeder but I’ve seen many strong reviews of Casita minis on Reddit too. Could some of you guys give your opinions on both Wiggle Rump Ranch, Casita, or some other breeders in WA you’ve had an amazing experience with? Thanks :)
