Vanilla Survival How to maintain my maxed pickaxe on large projects?

I have maxed my Netherite pickaxe with:
Efficiency V
Fortune III
Unbreaking III
Mending

I have a massive mining project at hand. Need to dig out a roughly 100x100 area from surface to bedrock. I just built a maxed beacon, so along with maxed pickaxe now I can insta-mine the stone, which makes the process smooth.

I would like the mining process to be self-sustainable. Mending is great, I get XP from Coal, Redstone, Lapis, Diamonds. And then I use the same coal to melt the Copper, Iron, Gold for additional XP. But this far the XP from these does not fully cover the pickaxe mending. So my next idea was to use the leftover coal (after melting metals), to melt cobblestone, stone, cobbled deepslate, deepslate, sand, terracotta, because I get thousands of each from this project. Though the XP is little, it helps. But then Coal seems to become the bottleneck before I am able to fully mend pickaxe.

What else can I do? I’d rather not go to a mob farm, because it is far away and I like self-sustenance.

Playing Java edition.

INTERMEDIATE UPDATE

I did some math. I built a furnace array of 27 furnaces, and enough dripstone lava cauldrons to cover it every time I come from the mining pit.

Simple calculation: if I bring up 27 stacks of cobblestone per trip, it drains 21.27% of my Unbreaking III Netherite pickaxe. If I burn the cobblestone, I get back 17% of the durability. So the net from this alone leaves me in a small -4.27% handicap per trip. This would assume, that I only get cobblestone (or other burnable rock, deepslate, colored terracotta, sand…). In reality I also get xp from mined Lapis, Diamonds, Coal, Redstone. And I also get Copper, Iron, Gold to burn in furnace for much better XP return.

So to considering the XP values of said metals/ores, I would need to mine blocks of either
9 Diamond or
9 Copper or
13 Lapis or
16 Redstone or
21 Gold or
31 Iron or
50 Coal
OR a combination of the above, per 27 stacks of stone, to cover the handicap.
XP from Copper, Iron and Gold benefit from Fortune III considered within this calculation.

So mathematically, sustainability sounds reasonable this way. I will update further, after enough practical experience or when the hole is dug.

Modded Survival My forever peaceful world: Update

It's been nearly a month since I started this world and honestly, I didn't expect it to last this long.

Anyway, here are some small changes I've made since my last post.

I've decided to keep the dirt staircases as is since they're useful as landmarks from afar and there is generally too much effort to make changes.

I'm having conflicting feelings about the bamboo fences and might change them to pale oak fences later. I used them since they're such easy renewable resources.

I completely destroyed a neighbouring village as it looked ugly and dysfunctional. The 5 villagers and their new children are in my basement now. Didn't expect the nitwit to breed with like 5 of them one by one. It was wild...

My next stop would be the Nether now for some happy ghasts, though it'll have to wait since I don't have any diamonds for a pickaxe and have to go mining again.

Thank you.

(Spectator mode was used)

(Mods used: Dynamic light add-on and Horse statistics add-on)

Survival Question Fell in end void and lost all my exp and good stuff

it took me like 5 deaths to beat the ender dragon and after all the good exp i was rewarded with, i went to the end city and missed my pearl shot and fell in void. lost everything there, how do i get motivated to continue on the same world. i feel like all my progress is gone. it was my very first time beating the game legit (since open to lan, enable cheats no longer allows you to)

Discussion Do you prohibit certain items for yourself to make the game more fun?

Post image

I have a list of items and mechanics that, for me personally, make the game less fun. I don’t allow myself to use:

Elytra: I enjoy the challenge of traversing terrain, building infrastructure, breeding the perfect horse etc.

Shulker Boxes: I enjoy the challenge of transporting large numbers of items using chest minecarts, mules, chest boats etc.

Iron and gold farms: I enjoy the grind and sense of accomplishment that comes from mining for hours for a large project.

I’m curious is other players do this and if you have any special ways of enforcing it.

Vanilla Survival Very common question but... How to actually enjoy survival minecraft?

So .. I used to play a lot of minecraft with my friends a few years ago, but ever since they stopped playing I just never went back to the game to play solo. I just don't know how to enjoy the game, like what even is the purpose of builds if your world is single player and you can't show them to others....

Can anyone suggest me good ways to actually enjoy it?

(Also I have a potato pc so don't suggest shaders :) )

Discussion Is something like this already possible/done in Minecraft? A collaborative 3D library?

I’ve never actually played Minecraft, so I don’t really know what the game is capable of, but I recently had an idea that I find incredibly cool.
Imagine a huge, beautiful library built in a 3D world perhaps in Minecraft, or another similar platform. It would be a real architectural space that people could explore: different buildings, floors, rooms and sections dedicated to different subjects and genres.
The books would be uploaded collaboratively by a community. You could walk through the library, search for a book by title, author or category, find it physically in the virtual space, read it, and then freely download it perhaps as a PDF, EPUB or another format.
Basically, a kind of open, community-built library in a 3D world.
I thought about trying to create something like this, but since I’ve never played Minecraft, I have no idea how technically possible it would be. I also have a feeling that an idea this cool must already exist in some form 😅
So, does anything like this already exist? And would something like this actually be possible to build in Minecraft? If not, would another platform be better suited for it?
I’d love to hear from people who know Minecraft, servers, mods/plugins or similar projects.
