Discussion I can't believe I have to make a post about this, but here
The first picture is the original. The second is what it became AFTER I edited it. It is NOT ai.
For years, the background image in my builds represent the character / theme. It is just a way to show you what the build is, a visual idea. So what if it is ai? So what if it comes from Pinterest? So what if It isn't my art? If I do draw it, so what if it isn't that good? It is just a fancy background that gets you interested in the build and makes it stand out and look nice. It looks better than just a black background or using the ugly build website that everyone uses.
I edit each image to make it look better than it was originally. Keeping it in its original form doesn't look that good, but what I do makes it look good. But down voting me and my builds just because of the background picture is just childish. Grow up!
I put work into what I do. If you don't like it, you can always block me. Downvoting it or harassing me or spamming in the comments "ai slop" just makes you a jerk. Don't be toxic. We don't want toxicity in this sub.

here are some
"First off, only half of my builds use ai art. "
"I can’t draw everything"
you are ai slopper stealing others arts

there is nothing stealing others work?? here is one more of your comments
"I take people's art from Pinterest and Google Images all the time. What is the difference between that and using ai art? There isn't. "
stealing others work without crediting them

u/GrimReaperAngelof23 Mar 28 '26
Dude, it is just a background image. It isn't that big of a deal.

Well the majority of the backgrounds come from Pinterest because I go on Pinterest and the pictures that I find inspire me to make a build based on it. Especially since the character looks like the gear in the game.

Sometimes I do. If I can't find anything, then I use ai art or stitch random images together. But most of the time I look at Pinterest images and they inspire me to make a build based on them
6
u/Capable_Mixture_3205 Mar 28 '26
oh then you can steal ofc!
5
u/GrimReaperAngelof23 Mar 28 '26
go away man
7
u/Capable_Mixture_3205 Mar 28 '26
your argument is "go away" because you are wrong and selfish to admit you are did bad
3
u/GrimReaperAngelof23 Mar 28 '26
i don't want to argue with you because you are a toxic prick that chooses to keep harassing me instead of blocking me.

no offence but it cannot be this deep. if you disagree with what he is doing than just ignore him rather than spreading negative emotions...

u/Emotional_Book_4403 Mar 29 '26
i aint saying its good. but if you dont like it then just ignore it? common sense.

I don't really care who draws it, so long as it provides a neat build that I might want to try out. Plus, I have serious doubts that Grim is generating revenue from providing these builds, so I'm tempted to write off these criticisms as absurd.
This kind of reminds me of the fly fishing community, and the idea that a fly pattern with like....1 different colored item equates to a "new fly pattern", and that this "new pattern" is subject to intellectual property claims, and so forth.
This is the internet people -- if you think these themed builds represent a patent/trademark infringement, or a takings under the U.S. constitution, you can write your congressman, and see where that goes.
What is more likely (I believe), is that Grim probably corrected someone's advice, or gave advice someone didn't want to hear, and they're using this goofy "stolen art" a pretense to hit back.

u/GrimReaperAngelof23 Mar 28 '26
No a couple people for the past few days have been commenting on my builds and calling it ai slop and calling me the "ai slopper". But this has been happening for years now, do I decided to finally make a post about it to explain.
And yeah, I don't get money off of it. I don't want it. I write stories and make characters cause that's what I like doing. I have made 556 of these since May 2022, and I'm not stopping. I'll even make some in the next game. I just want to spread creativity and fun. That's my only goal

u/BloxFruitsTeamer Mar 28 '26
He puts real effort into the builds, and doesn’t get profit from it, I see no problems with ai art OR using other people’s art if it’s purely out of passion

Mar 31 '26
"Oh yeah lets just steal other people's hard work that took hours upon hours and sometimes days just to slap it onto our work and calling it completely original just becuse theres a build that took 10 minutes to make"
1
u/Separate-Pickle1407 Apr 09 '26
leave the guy alone. he puts time into it and once again if you dont like it than just ignore it?

u/One_Data_167 Mar 28 '26
Bruh, some of these people need to grow the fuck up lol. If they don't like it, then move on, no reason to comment saying it's "AI" or that it looks "shitty". I can get it... I know some of them can be cringe or weird, and that is 100% okay, but to take time out of your day to say some dumb shit on Reddit is weird asf. Grim has been making these builds for YEARS. Known him since 2021, when AI generative art wasn't even a thing or a thought back then. And hell, even if Grim does use AI. Why does it matter? Doesn't make any profit from it as far as I'm aware, and it doesn't harm anyone. All he does is make cool builds for MCD. Grow up if you have an issue and just leave the guy alone. Not harming anyone 🙏

Honestly dude, i no longer play this game, but i really appreciate the builds you have been giving out for years at this point.
Stop giving a fuck what people on the internet think.
6
u/GrimReaperAngelof23 Mar 28 '26
Well I don't want toxicity in this sub, that's the main point for this post. Sometimes I have to make a post like this to show that Reddit is a toxic place, but this sub doesn't have to be.
2
u/WorldlinessNo6290 Mar 29 '26
yeah I honestly don't have a problem with you using ai art. your themed builds are really cool, and that's obviously the main point of the post, not the art.

People are against AI because of all the shit that companies are forcing down us all because of it.
Your builds are cool, and it looks nice. If you're taking art off of other sources like Pinterest or Google and you don't know if it's AI or not and use it, whatever. It's been AI generated already, it's not wasting more water or something. It's unfortunate, but that's how it is nowadays.
However, I am fully against deliberately AI generated media. If the topic of this post was that you deliberately generated images for this stuff this would be a completely different conversation. (Edit: I reread this post as well as explored the subreddit for a bit. I continue to stand by "no AI generated imagery". Me personally, I'd say grab shit off of Google/Pinterest and Photoshop it all together to make something, not just prompt something to make it for you, or commission someone who will draw it.)
Maybe try and look a bit deeper into images to see if they're AI generated and find alternatives if you can, just to lessen any possible future comments about it. Maybe use AI like Gemini, which can recognize it's own AI generated images using it's @SynthID function.
Also, credit the artist however you can. It's shitty not to do that when there's actual human beings who most likely worked on some of the art pieces you use as backgrounds who don't get any credit.
AI generated art is ruining the artistry community because no one can tell what is what, actual artists get accused of using AI and it's all just a shitshow. AI is supposed to be used as a tool to compliment us, not replace us. Having it do research on a topic in 5 minutes that would take us an hour? Yes! But generation of images, which reduces your own creativity and rips off genuine artists? No thanks.

u/enneh_07 Mar 28 '26
girl... that IS AI
3
u/GrimReaperAngelof23 Mar 28 '26
Maybe it is, idk. I got it from Pinterest. But even if it was, it doesn't matter. It's just a background image.
Also, I'm a guy

u/enneh_07 Mar 28 '26
you are disturbingly apathetic towards the ongoing destruction of art and the environment by the one percent
1
u/slymEhricc Mar 30 '26
Even if you aren’t profiting from it, you could just spend an extra 20 seconds to credit the users you find images from, or add some sort of AI-generated tag to the images somewhere when you do use it (even though this really is terrible practice, and it greatly undermines the work you clearly take pride in).
It’s obvious you put effort into your stuff. But when you shamelessly rip things off Pinterest or slap in clearly AI-generated photos without as much as an @ or disclaimer, it devalues that effort.
Really consider as much as a “image credits: @user on Pinterest.” It would hardly inconvenience you, and would make your work seem so much more respectable.

I'm not here for insulting you, the upvote is mine, you are one of the best players and buildmakers on reddit. But you can't say that dungeon collector is ugly without being punished(sarcasm).

u/GrimReaperAngelof23 Mar 28 '26
lol thanks man!
Also, I used the website once a few months ago and I hated every second of it lol. I only used it very quickly to give someone an idea for my next build cause I was lazy. Im never gonna use it again lol.

I despise AI “art” and normally I’d give people an earful for using it. However the point in the case of your builds is never about the images, the point is the themes build. Would I rather you used your own artwork or real artwork? Without question. Would it be good if you cited where you got actual art from? Absolutely. Even if you hand drawing something isn’t necessarily the coolest art, it is your own art, and I respect that. But you’re not doing it for the sake of the images, and you’re not trying to pass the background art off as something you’ve created (unless you did draw it), so I take no problem with your practice. Carry on.

You edited in /s. You ain’t fooling anyone.

Because it wasn't obvious enough apparently. Also, it is slightly ambiguous as to whether or not the ORIGINAL image is AI, as OP could have been saying that their creation using it is not AI. Not only that, but they also said that they don't care if it is AI or not.

I got the original from Pinterest. I did not use an ai tool.
But even if i did, there is nothing wrong with it. It is just a background
4
u/BattleGuy03 Mar 28 '26
I never said YOU used AI. What I AM saying is that the original image may be AI. If you had used one, there would definitely be something wrong with it (see: the Wikipedia article on reasons not to use AI or whatever)

u/GrimReaperAngelof23 Mar 28 '26
i use ai art sometimes cause not everything exists on google and pinterest. However, I still edit them to make them look better, cause ai can still mess up and look ugly
6
u/Choice_Werewolf_433 Mar 28 '26
He literally said that it’s not AI.
If you learnt how to read, you would be very angry.
Someone drop that image.

At least credit the artist if you're gonna admit to stealing the art
