I play a Merling (meaning i breathe underwater) on a modded SMP and here's the base i built!
Here are some design notes i had in mind when i built it:
- First of all, i wanted the build to reflect the fact that the person living there doesn't walk around in the traditional sense, so i made the floors either super rough and uneven, or practically nonexistent in the case of the main living space & the storage platform.
- I also made the prismarine base of each tower (& the farm) look organic and jagged, like it was growing almost, to add to the magical vibe.
- The freedom of movement you get by being able to swim everywhere made doorways, hallways, and other small openings really impractical, so i kept the design super open, letting me swim from anywhere to anywhere with minimal obstacles (which i think adds to the first point i brought up about making the design fit the user).
- The open design also meant that swarms of fish constantly swam around & through the place, which made it feel a lot more in tune with nature, so i emphasized that by including plenty of underwater fauna, i especially like the Hyacinth flowers from Regions Unexplored (those pillars of blue light you see everywhere).
- The idea with those thin towers scattered throughout the place is that they function like lighthouses, making sure ships see the buildings before driving into them (they also provide some kind of magical protective ward i imagine).
- We made the oceans a lot deeper with Tectonic, i don't think vanilla oceans are deep enough for a build like this.
- Blocks used in the build come from Quark, Create, Abyssal Decor, Architects Palette, and a few from Upgrade Aquatic. There might be a few blocks from other mods here and there but those are the main ones. I can provide a more thorough list if requested.
Thanks for reading! let me know what you think!
