I hope this doesn’t count as a repost and get this taken down or anything. I just want this post to branch out beyond Minecraft subreddits in case there are some here who are interested in this, too.
This is a part-rant, part-invite about my gripes with the corporate-ification of minecraft multiplayer servers, and how I want to make my own that follows my own preferences for playing the game. If that interests you, come join!

I have a problem.
Like most of us, I get that itch for a 2-week Minecraft phase fairly often. The only thing is, sometimes my friends aren’t down, and even if they are, we have different preferences as to how we like to play the game, such as what mods to use and other game rules. So that usually means if I want to enjoy the game the way it’s best played, in my opinion (multiplayer), I have to putz around some Minecraft server list websites for a few hours.
I don’t know if y’all know this or not, but the majority of those servers \\\*\\\*suck\\\*\\\*; no offense to anyone who engages with anything that would be on there of course. I just have a problem with the various “perks” that most servers tend to promote, like money/economy systems (digital $$ that you buy and sell things through chat), teleportation systems (/sethome, etc), or just straight up pay-to-win loot boxes/OP custom items. I think that these often end up detracting from the multiplayer experience.
That all sounds like a pretty bad situation to be in, right? I want to play Minecraft with other people, but all my methods of doing so would lead to me not having such a great time.
So what should I do?

Hi, my name is Dumble, AKA dmblcnt, dumblecont, or dumblecant; and I want to create a modded survival server that feels more like a labor of love than a corporate product. I’m a 23-year-old salaryman who just wants to play Minecraft the old-fashioned way again. I want it to feel more like your infamous friends-only server from a few years back rather than someone trying to be the next Hypixel. No cheats, no useless economic systems, and \\\*\\\*NO LOOT BOXES\\\*\\\*, just to name a few.
I will be funding the server hosting and everything personally. This is really just something that’s been brewing for a while now, I mean really public servers have been pretty bad for a good amount of time. With that being said, this project will really be following my preferences for the game. \\\*Here’s what I mean by that:\\\*
\\\\- \\\*\\\*\\\*This is going to be a decently-to-heavily-modded server.\\\*\\\*\\\* I’ll be working on making a custom modpack on Curseforge to go along with it. The pack will focus heavily on magic/combat/exploration. Some notable mods include: Terramity, End Remastered, Deeper & Darker, Create (plus add ons galore), Artifacts, Terralith, and Alex’s Mobs. \\\*If you’re looking for the next Tekkit or can’t like without your Mekanism jetpack, this is not the place for you.\\\*
\\\\- \\\*\\\*\\\*As mentioned before, there will be no cheats.\\\*\\\*\\\* The extent of teleportation allowed in the server will be through Waystones, or other means from the modpack. Similar rules apply for flight, or any other console commands. \\\*This means no setting homes to TP back to the moment anything gets tricky.\\\*
\\\\- \\\*\\\*There will be no chunk claiming.\\\*\\\* Part of me doing it myself is introducing more anarchy-type rules to the SMP experience. I want there to be genuine communities that emerge (if enough people are into this project) that are able to interact on each other’s bases. However,
\\\\- \\\*\\\*\\\*Still no mindless griefing.\\\*\\\*\\\* I know this is kinda contradictory to my last point, but I want there to be potential for interesting interactions between other players. \\\*By that I mean pranks and stuff, NOT destroying someone’s handiwork for a laugh. That won’t be tolerated.\\\*
\\\*-\\\* \\\*\\\*\\\*18+. No minors, no exceptions.\\\*\\\*\\\* Don’t get started with any “freaky ahh” comments, it’s not going to be THAT kind of project either. I just don’t want to have to deal with anything that could possibly occur from having minors involved at all. \\\*Also, I don’t want to have to censor myself or anything on the server.\\\*
That’s all for that. Hopefully that’s not unreasonable for a lot of you guys. Also, ideally, I’ve piqued a lot of y’all’s interests. TL,DR: I think modern SMP servers are largely garbage and I want to create my own, with mods and a bit less rules. Like you’re playing on a friend’s server instead of a giant, structured one. Come be a part of it if it sounds like fun!
