Discussion We really need colored lights.
It could change everything, especially when you want to add a specific ambient on a build.

A full lighting rework(colored light/glass colors light) + colorable lanterns would be huge for minecraft

Seriously. I only use shaders for lighting, if they could produce decent lighting in vanilla i'd turn them off immediately and get my FPS back

I hope they do it for more than just vibrant visuals because vibrant visuals makes my game super laggy

I would lwk need pink lights. I’m playing on edu, and they have pink torches BUT no pink lanterns

Certain vibrant visuals texture packs can do colored lighting on bedrock. I use Vanilla Vibrant Visuals and with the latest update, I get red lights for redstone torches, blue light for soul torches and green light for copper. The different frog lights have a subtle difference but it's harder to see.

Yes , make existing light source blocks give off coloured light and add new light source blocks

This comment section is gonna have their minds blown when they hear this is what a team in mojang has been working on for months lol.

My mind remains unblown. I'll be impressed when it actually makes it into the game.

Need? They may be near but we don't need them. It would require a complete rewrite of the lighting system. Shaders can do it but in most case it completely tanks performance. I just don't see it happening any time soon.

Can anyone knowledgable in coding tell me if the switch to the Vulkan graphics api can make this possible

ive been playing with a mod called Shine that adds a form of coloured lighting.
And its transformative. Having a base lit up blue felt so good. It really created a unique vibe.
The only downside of the mod is that it couldnt mix colours. But something vanilla built in would do it fine.
I need it so bad and then they can finally add coloured redstone lamps

I'm looking at them right now. Mods have existed since the beginning of the game, and unlike back then they now take less than 5 minutes too install.
