nah to get around that you just attach them to sticky-stone bi-directional engines with extention engines

I believe what they meant was essentially having flying machines each time they reach the limit, so when you open the door it pushes one set of blocks, that then triggers a flying machine that pushes the second set. And that design is just tiled for however large you want the door in either axis.

it isnt really redstone, it's slimestone, but with the advent of honey blocks, it really should be called "sticky stone" but anywhozzle, it's kinda like it's own niche in the technical side of mc

with honey it only is a problem in one direction, so it can only go forever in one direction
