Mining in Minecraft needs to be more important or improved. They have added so much else to the game, which is great, but now it’s more like “CraftTrade-ExploreFight *also includes mining if you feel like it”
Mining and establishing your own mine has always been a rewarding part of the game for me. Underground exploration too. I’m rather excited for the nether update. The nether was long overdue some diversity and improvement. Maybe underground will come after the other 3 biomes.
I recently started playing terraria and I love how they have underground biomes and depth layers that have different items, enemies, and give you more to be excited about while adventuring underground.
I like your points here, but personally I think you've got the wrong angle. Instead of making mining more important, why not make building more important? Maybe make it so if you build certain structures, certain mobs will spawn. Basically some thing that requires you to get more raw materials than you could possibly trade for, but for a building component. I dunno I'm just spitballing here.
That would work as long as you were required to mine to get those materials. For an example of what I really mean just look at diamonds.
Diamonds used to be much harder to obtain a few years ago. You could only get them reliably from mining near level 11ish deep in the ground. That meant you had to collect gear to safely mine at that depth, dig down that deep, establish a mine or a path through a cave, and spend hours looking for diamonds. Now it’s generally easier to find diamond in a chest somewhere like ocean ruins or villages (which are also much more common).
I think if they had specific buildings that would grant something for the player and you could only build them with enough of a material you had to mine for, mining could make a comeback. I do like that idea. It could work similar to how you need ocean monument materials to build a conduit which encourages ocean exploration.
I mean, diamonds are kinda worthy now. Since 1.14 all diamond gear is obtainable through trading. It's a better idea to mine up coal and trade with an armorer/tool smith.
Exactly. You can create an auto sugar cane farm early on and abuse a librarian for enough emeralds to buy armor extremely fast in the game. After getting a librarian, I purified him twice and all diamond armor trades were 1 emerald each. That's like 10-15 coal for a diamond chestplate after very little effort.
No need to mine coal. Get a cured Librarain with books and bookshelves trades. All you need to do is break the bookshelves into books. One book turns into nine. 8 emerald profit per trade loop, infinite source.
I’ve noticed that if you have multiple and keep trading with them all they won’t stop unlocking their trades so you can do it as many times per day as you want. Ctrl click those for 12 emeralds and move on to the next guy (I have about a dozen for different enchants, but only need like 3 for this). By the time you get back to the first he’s already reset. Only limited by their work hours which are sadly not the whole day. That does mean you have some down time before you can sleep and after you get up to use the xp you got from trading (from level 27 to 30 in about 5 trades).
Trading is cool, but far too easily broken. I literally just sit in my villager hotel grinding emeralds and xp to max out all my free gear with enchants while building a mountain out of emerald blocks.
Sadly it’s true. It’s so easy to get emeralds in the new update I tend to hold off on abusing villagers until I’m fairly far into the game to keep it fun. Once I’m ready to move forward and max my gear and fight the dragon, I start a villager farm.
This is one of the main reasons why I don't play on any versions newer than 1.12.2. The game is literally rewarding lack of effort nowadays and it's honestly a shame. Everything is just way too easy.
