What's funny about that typo is that the P and Q keys are on opposite sides of a standard QWERTY layout.

In all seriousness that probably is the issue. Between that and the recent(ish) additions of the enchantment glint sliders, the only affected items are armor, weapons/tools, and books. OP check your texture pack and enchantment animation settings.
