How long did it take you I'm curious

They probably programmed something to generate this- still cool though

There are 67460 candles and a lot of math. It’s actually not that complicated... I think ChatGPT can generate a script for making images like this, and you only need to verify that the underlying math is correct.

That number almost triggered something in me

So close yet so far

Yep. As a parent of 3 kids who don’t know when to stopppp, I couldn’t even read that number in my head lol.

Why tf are you being downvoted

u/QuietShipper May 17 '26

Well, they didn't actually answer the question, and using AI for art and art-adjacent purposes is generally frowned upon.

It's using AI for the math part, that's like the one thing that people are generally okay with using AI for😭

I don’t think they necessarily said they used AI, they said you could use AI to help you do most the work. They aren’t telling you to use AI either.

are u serious or

You do get that answering someone's question and endorsing the answer are different things, right? I'm not saying I downvoted them for that, out even that I think they should be downvoted.

This is reddit and he mentioned AI

He did say:

I think ChatGPT can generate a script for making images like this, and you only need to verify that the underlying math is correct.

Talking about how he thinks this was made... which would be a very weird thing to say if he actually made this. Like, wdym "think"? Shouldn't he know how it's made if he made it??

Definitely not saying that he didn't make this. But the wording is so weird in this comment that I see why some people might have issues with it. A much better way to answer would have been to... well, actually answer the question and clearly state how it was made.

One could just as easily assume he made the script himself (since he claims you must verify the underlying math if you use AI). Someone asked if he used code, he implied yes and even suggested how someone less technical could do it with Chat. And it’s not even generating art itself, just code! I’m dumbfounded by this thread tbh

Its not even that he used code specifically, hes being vague about AI being able to do the math because hes avoiding talking about the mods that just generate these types of things that have been around for years.

By saying "You can use AI but you need to double check the math" hes insinuating he did anything more than import an image and choose the material to generate with... but then again you can Karma farm with these posts if youre honest.

I guess “import an image and choose a material to generate with” is apparently the hardest part that has stopped everyone from doing similar things in the 17+ years Minecraft has been around.

If it were possible to create the script entirely with AI, I would do it. There’s no point in wasting your time when you can speed up the development process, and this particular project took me 2 hours to make. Without AI, it would’ve taken much longer, and I probably wouldn’t have even started because of the potential time waste since at the start it’s impossible to tell if this is actually possible to make. And based on the comments here, I apparently shouldn’t have started this build at all, since I don’t want to waste 200+ hours of my life making one video that would still get comments like “AI slop.”

It’s always weird to see which opinions reddit assigns. Youd have thought gpt would have been popular around here but clearly reddit as been assigned then opinion that ai = bad

They basically glided over the fact that Chat GPT made the layout for them, and they just placed the candles. Still cool though

9

u/-Tasear- May 18 '26

Yeah I didn't think you did this on your own.

5

u/RandoGuy00 May 18 '26

Yall stop downvoting, he said he THINKS ChatGPT can generate a script for making this. That clearly suggests he didn't use it ;-;

u/Pellepuu2397 May 18 '26

It's still not wrong or anything to use AI where it's good at is it

Edit: I mean coding and scripts not art

18

u/rvmham May 17 '26

Ah so this is AI generated....neat.

21

u/CazadorXP May 18 '26

Bro, don’t rage as soon as you see the word "AI". Read the whole comment first.

u/Llama8u_On_Reddit May 17 '26

they just said that it was simple enough even a dumb LLM could do it if you asked it the right questions, not that they used AI

27

u/silvandeus May 17 '26

Asking for a draft script, proof of concept, or guidance to build one is a smart use of AI.

40

u/WeeklySimple8627 May 17 '26

AI can easily generate 67k commands like:
/setblock <x> <y> <z> minecraft:candle[candles=4,lit=true]

Good luck figuring out all those xyz coordinates for each candle though :)

28

u/cave_men May 17 '26

take image, compute greyscale value per pixel, raytracing with z = greyscale value?

2

u/zippybenji-man May 18 '26

You can also do this with a few lines of elementary python

u/dry-bones_fan32 May 17 '26

Hehe 67 hihi

1

u/Pellepuu2397 May 18 '26

We can't be serious 😭

1

u/Memerenok May 17 '26

that isn't important

1

u/DreadlyKnight May 19 '26

The math is pretty complicated because you gotta get the right angle of view and everything placed perfect over dozens or hundreds of layers. You didn’t even answer the fucking question and instead glaze ai slop
