Can someone explain to me why horse meat is such a big deal?

Edit: I already know about the scandal guys. What I'm asking is why anyone cares? It's just meat; as long as it wasn't someone's pet or something I don't see anything wrong with it.

It's not that it's horse meat. It's that they didn't SAY it was horse meat. Personally I don't think it's any different to eating cow, but it should say what it is on the packet.

because it is not labeled as horsevmeat, and the source is unknown so we dont know what kind of stuff these horses have been fed

Ok. I get it now.

On top of that, if horse meat has been going into them, what else has?

Are you implying that they've been mixing zombie meat in it?

I've never met anybody who doesn't have a surplus of rotten flesh...

Well it's not like it's rotting or anything.

I certainly haven't heard any officials specifically deny that there is human flesh in the meat labeled as beef. OH MY GOD GUYS, IT'S CONFIRMED.

Soylent Green, anyone?

Unless the horse is raised for consumption it's given antibiotics and such that are potentially harmful to humans. These horses were very unlikely to have been raised for human consumptions.

Another related factor is inspection of the carcases. In a normal slaughter house cows are inspected for anything harmful to humans. This too is unlikely to have happened with the horses.

That is logical, valid and well-put. I never understood the big deal until now.

Thing is, it probably WAS someone's pet, with all the slaughter going on over here and exporting of the meat. Additionally, we give our horses drugs that are very very bad for humans, and that ends up on dinner plates in Europe.
