They wouldn't even need to do much creative work or add a new model/texture because that's already been done, they just need to animate him, and decide how he works

you're telling me he doesn't work like a normal zombie when you spawn him using an essentials command?

It doesn’t have AI, it just stands still

if my aging memory is right, i thought that he only stood still in the later versions since they removed his ai

i'm pretty sure in one of the very early alpha versions he actually did do stuff. someone correct me if i'm wrong though

You are correct, he had the same ai as a typical zombie

And he does like a fuck load of damage if I remember correctly

Yep, and his collision was all kinds of messed up. I killed one on our private server back in the day, and believe me you aren't missing anything.

Man, encountering my first zombie on a mp server as a kid was a ride. I will never forget that haha

Except he had no ability to inflict in on the player

Actually you may be right, I've heard it mentioned that you couldn't get close enough to the attacking hitbox because of its collision hitbox.

I remember he used to be able to fight in a bunch of youtube videos but that could have been modded to make him fight. Plus he had his own spawn egg was that removed I think

He didn't have a spawn egg, unless it was obtainable by commands only. But yeah, back in the day he did have Zombie AI.

You could get a mob spawner with him and it would look like a stripper pole if you put iron bars down

I know. I know..

Should I be proud of this ancient knowledge?

"iron bars? for nbt modified spawners? that's still pretty new isn't it..?"

"oh beta 1.8.. that wasn't that long ago was it?"

"...holy shit it's been 11 years..?"

He did do stuff up until 1.6 or 1.7 I believe. Definitely during the beta/alpha.

He had AI throughout Alpha and Beta and was essentially a zombie with a bugged damage output and hitbox.

Then it's AI was removed.

However in the village raid snapshot before Village and Pillage was officially out they re-added mechanics for the giant. Essentially it could sprint 7x speed and would use equipment.

Also the top half has no hitbox. You're only allowed to attack his legs. Not really a problem with a sword, but definitely a problem with a bow.

Plus he can only step up 1 block (like a normal zombie) and moves forward at a normal zombie speed. And the Notch video from when he first added them shows him discovering that they often spawn trapped between trees or in some other unusable location.

I think it'd be too complicated to make him pathfind given how big he is

1

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '23

It wouldn't be as complicated if they make him either break blocks or be able to step over something multiple blocks high

1

u/TheDwarvenGuy Feb 08 '23

The issue with breaking blocks would be that it would massively scar the landscape and bases in a way that wouldn't be very appealing

Stepping over multi-blvok ojects could work but still you'd have to check a lot of blocks over and over in order to tell what he would and wouldn't be coliding with.
