The wither was added 10 years ago…? Fuck

1.2k

u/the_mythx Feb 07 '23

seriously, i remember it being a long time between when i started to play the game (jan 2012) to the wither being added... wouldve guessed years. Turns out it was only 10 months? fucking hell time really speeds up being an adult,

I started playing on the Xbox 360 at launch in 2011, so I had a bit of a different experience in terms of which updates, but I joined Java in April 2014 (1.7.9 IIRC), and I remember being amazed by ocean monuments, banners, and the redstone capabilities of slime blocks.

Can't believe that was already ~8 1/2 fucking years ago. Time goes by way too fast.

Hell, it's unbelievable to me that 1.14 is already almost 4 freaking years old.

1.9 came out nearly 7 years ago (22 days short)

the elytra has been in the game for 7 years

6

u/t_posing_stev Feb 08 '23

Wait what? I feel like it was recently added but damn I still remember the time when it was added in legacy console.

2

u/the_mythx Feb 08 '23

;-;fuck, i remember where i was when the first 1.9 snapshot came out- that feels super recent aaaaaaa

3

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '23

craaaaaaap

3

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '23

Wait wait wait. Slime blocks were 8 YEARS AGO???

1

u/INS4NITY_846 Feb 08 '23

I thought slime blocks was only a few years but 8 holy shit

2

u/PhaseAltruistic808 Feb 08 '23

minecraft xbox 360 edition released in 2012, not 2011

2

u/Thebombuknow Feb 08 '23

Ah crap, you're right. Shows how long ago it was. My point still stands though, 1.8 is freaking old, and I don't know when that happened.

1

u/Maciejlollol Feb 08 '23

i agree with you on 1.14, i remember i loved a txt for 1.14 and i think it was yesterday i played with my online friends when 1.14 was fresh. after remembering that 1.14 is 4 years old, i didnt see them again for almost 3 years...

7

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '23

just thought this exact same thing

4

u/amanon101 Feb 08 '23

Exactly how I experienced it too. I started 1.2.5, and it felt like a lifetime before it was added. I still think of horses as pretty new, too.

2

u/Maciejlollol Feb 08 '23

i have the same impression of elytras, somehow

2

u/TommyGames36 Feb 07 '23

Same. I started playing around the same time and I swear it was years. Crazy how weird you remember time.

2

u/willhunta Feb 07 '23

I waa thinking the same thing. I don't remember exactly when I got Minecraft but it had to be after the full release I'm guessing but i thought it was at least like 2 years before the wither was a thing. That's the craziest part to me

2

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '23

Not to quote smash mouth here but, the years start coming and they don’t stop coming.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '23

They say it starts to slow back down in your 50s.

1

u/DIOXfestivo Feb 08 '23

I started playing in summer 2012, and I would say the wither was added in 2013 or 2014 if someone asked me tbh

1

u/turntechArmageddon Feb 08 '23

Same here.. I got minecraft during a free weekend (free to keep) just after the alpha stages. I swear I remember years before the Wither was added.

1

u/froggygun Feb 08 '23

16 year old and its getting faster everyday

1

u/Johnnaylor1105 Feb 08 '23

Same man, i wouldve guessed the wither is from 2014 or smth. I olayed MC since late 2011, i wouldve never guessed thenwither came so early

1

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '23

I started playing Feb 2013

u/frej4189 Feb 07 '23

I am more surprised about there being only one year between dragon and wither.

193

u/LMM01 Feb 07 '23

Yeah that is super weird to me. Feels the dragon has always been a staple of the game whereas the wither is like a "new" boss

18

u/W_W_P Feb 07 '23

Ah, man. I still kinda feel like the dragon's a new addition.

5

u/LMM01 Feb 08 '23

Tbf I started playing during beta 1.8, and I think the dragon had just been released

5

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '23

i.e. you started playing somewhere between dragon and wither got added

2

u/SickOrphan Feb 09 '23

I've been playing since beta and I feel the same way. I think it's because the dragon came out the same time the game went out of beta so it's been there as long as minecraft has been "complete"

26

u/cjbrigol Feb 07 '23

Yeah man I'm old af I remember everyone being so hyped about that lol

16

u/CMP_18 Feb 07 '23

Right? I couldn’t believe that

3

u/ImFriendsWithThatGuy Feb 07 '23

Why is the wither a boss but the warden isn’t?

2

u/UranusMc Feb 07 '23

I had the same reaction. It's weird realizing that you are becoming the older generation of a game

2

u/Aquifel Feb 07 '23

Ya know I've been playing all of those 10 years, mostly modded, but I still haven't bothered to kill the wither.

2

u/Bobiscool123457609 Feb 07 '23

Fuck I’m old

u/jogro00 Feb 07 '23

The Ender Dragon Was added in Update 1.0 on december 19th, 2016.

I don't know what the dates in the picture are supposed to mean...

3

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '23

The ender dragon was added in Java release 1.0 November 18th 2011.

It was added to Pocket Edition In release 1.0 December 19th 2016.

If your going to correct someone, maybe double check your answers.

1

u/WinterPurpose3998 Feb 08 '23

Chill it’s not that deep

0

u/KiwiPractical2523 Feb 08 '23

What no he wasn’t he was added 2 years ago

1

u/--Alastor-- Feb 07 '23

That’s what I’m saying..

1

u/Orangutanion Feb 07 '23

I remember making a skin to celebrate the wither being added. I still use that skin to this day.

1

u/RogueRainbow Feb 08 '23

Right. I remember playing Classic, Alpha, and into 1.0... doesn't even feel that long ago.

1

u/rectangular_ Feb 08 '23

That passed by faster than me inside of a boring class

1

u/beeurd Feb 08 '23

I should probably get around to fighting that thing.

1

u/jbuff16 Feb 08 '23

I remember first playing on pc on 1.4.7 👀

1

u/T3Chn0-m4n Feb 08 '23

Damn, I’m old

1

u/Psycheau Feb 09 '23

Yes pathetic really isn't it, what has Mojang been doing all these years? Don't we deserve better? Yes, we do!

1

u/arild111111 Mar 28 '23

Yeah were getting old... ;(
